They’re going back to the Olympics next year. Then the World Cup of Hockey is back in 2028. The plan is to continue the World Cup every 4 years after that. So essentially, a “best-on-best” tournament every two years moving forward starting in 2026 (Olympics, then World Cup, then Olympics, etc.).
I don’t know if it’s been officially stated as such, but this tournament is basically a mini dry-run for the World Cup in 2028 (which will be larger than this in terms of both number of countries and length).

Thank God, the Olympics were lame as shite without NHL players.
The Olympic tournaments in 2010 and 2014 was some of the best hockey I’ve ever seen, especially 2010 on the smaller rink size compared to normal Olympic play.
