Timmy isn't exactly swift.
No but he has about the best outside jumper of a guy that could play 5 and still be effective in the post. I want a guy that can defend a big man like Shaq respectably on D, then be able to knock down open mid range shots consistently. Then a team with a great big man cant stay down low and help and Jordan, Lebron, Kobe, and Magic can all go apeshit getting to the rim every possession. My team doesn't want to shoot 3s or play around in the post. They want to score every single possession as fast as possible as their goal is to average 275 points per game.
Then they need to be able to swarm on defense and create lots of turnovers as their goal is to win 300-50 as often as possible. Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron would be a terror together and Magic and Duncan would be perfect to also double team but also be big and athletic enough to protect the basket while Jordan, Kobe and Lebron are double teaming and swarming every possession stealing the ball and dunking on the other end every 6-7 seconds.

PG: prime Lebron
SG: prime Jordan
SF: present day Durant
PF: prime Bird
C: prime Kareem
It was kind of tempting to plug in Jerry West for Jordan for the outside shooting but Jordan's defense and ability to go inside were enough to stick with him.
Kareem is the forgotten freak who shoots better free throws than Shaq or Chamberlain.
I was tempted to replace the out of position Bird with Barkley or Duncan but with two elite outside shooters with Kareem, Jordan, and Lebron able to finish inside I think the team is pretty much impossible to guard and has great defense at every position. That was hard tho. I love prime Barkley's game.

Magic
Jordan
Bird
Durant
Shaq
There are players better than Durant, but I'd want him to spread the floor with the other four.

Jesus Christ, I’d take the 85 Lakers or Celtics and beat most of these “all-time” teams.

People forget how dominant Timmy was in his prime. This is a guy who put up finals elimination game stats like
21 points
20 rebounds
10 assists
8 blocks
3 steals
21 points
20 rebounds
10 assists
8 blocks
3 steals

Dukke v - you’re post makes a strong argument for
Magic
Jordan
Bird
Durant
Hakeem
That would be a truly sick lineup...think I’d still prefer Prime Shaq over Hakeem just because sometimes (and especially to compliment the other four guys mentioned) I’d like the option of pure brute force physicality. Nobody is better for that than Shaq and he always made his free throws when it mattered. Pure monster.
Magic/Kobe/Curry
Jordan
Bird
Durant
Shaq
STILL think I might go with Curry at PG. best shooter I’ve ever seen. Sick handle and poise. Already shown he can fit and blend perfectly with KD.

Hakeem was a way better defender than shaq and more vesitle.....

Agree Hakeem is more versatile and a better defender, but I’d still take Shaq as my center with the right pieces around him to provide all the versatility, defense, and shooting needed.

Hakeem is the GOAT center

Remember the quote jordan gave about him when discussing his all-time 5?
quote:
If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team], I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position. It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots. People don't realize he was in the top seven [in NBA history] in steals. He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game, I have to give it to him

Caveat - no Lebron teams allowed. Great player but just too polarizing and will dumb the conversation down too much. Thanks.

Consider who Jordan is when you consider how seriously to take that as an impartial opinion.
In picking Hakeem (who was awesome) he gets to snub Chamberlain and Kareem. Those are two people with a reasonable argument for GOAT status.

Lebron’s absolute need to be ball dominant to be productive (often at the expense of previously all star level teammates), and his lack of a consistently reliably outside jump shot are two clear reasons why he would not be included in an all time starting 5...for valid reasons.
He’s an all time great but he’s also a little soft and entitled. Understandable since he’s been the chosen one since he was 16-17 years old but still a lot of the other guys mentioned are assassins and have a mental edge forged from extreme fire and competition that LeBron just doesn’t have.
Updated starting 5
1. Curry
2. Jordan
3. Durant
4. Bird
5. Shaq
Hakeem arguments actually making me think twice about Shaq. Still feeling prime Shaq for pure physical dominance when needed (and it’s always needed at some point in a 7 game series) but Hakeem really was special.

Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem - tough choice
Still go with Shaq but can’t hate on any of the three
