Ruth...there is no major league player today that could swing a 42 ounce bat and hit over 700 HRs.

Ruth couldn't swing that either against today's pitchers

Wouldn't Mantle be a better choice of a 5 tool player than Mays? Also he, Mantle, had one other advantage, he was a switch hitter.

My top 5 are in no order...
Shoeless Joe
Ruth
Cobb
Mantle
Griffey, Jr.

Mantle may have been the most talented guy to ever play, but his injuries kept his stats a notch below the others, even though they were still great.

So you are saying Mantle is the best ever or are you saying that stats define the best ever...because I would then argue that Nolan Ryan wasnt a great pitcher because he lost so many games, longevity created his career.

Even if you want to discount Ruth for defense or speed or something else, Bonds is the obvious choice. He was absolutely ridiculous in the 90's, before he got huge.

So you are going to laugh at a guy who was 40/40 and won multiple MVPs but has yet to be proven he tested positive for anything banned? Sure he wasnt a great interview or at times teammate, according to people, but the man had some talent.

will be A-Rod by the time he's retired.

of course he needs to get a few rings as well. certainly plausible with the yanks.

The guy cheated and is guilty. And at least two of his MVPs were as a result of steroids. Yes, the man had talent, but he was not nearly talented enough to be considered the greatest player of All-time.

So yes,

You have absolute proof of this? The Government went after him found nothing, except tax evasion, MLB went after him, found nothing, SF Chronicle, went after him, found nothing but allegations, but no proof. So the fact that almost all players since the 80's have bulked up and had changes in body types and introduced weights means Bonds, soley cheated, and nobody else, Rickey Henderson, who legitimately can be considered one of the top 5 players, didnt cheat, but he bulked up, Ripkien's body changed, Griffey's has changed, A-Rods has. But according to you, only Bonds has cheated?

Oh and by the way, the answer to this question is...

1) Babe Ruth
2) Willie Mays (Willie could be first if you want to take away from Ruth because of the era he played in.)
3) Mickey Mantle
4) Ken Griffey Jr.
5) Hank Aaron
6) Lou Gehrig

I dont know why you say only Bonds when this list was generated, which inclides Fielder, hitters, pitchers

LINK

And your list is good I dont know about Gehrig being in top 6 but top 25 yes...but its subjective.

I love Griffey but I just can't see how he's ahead of 1990-2000 Barry Bonds.

edit: If I had to make a list I would probably go:
1. Ruth
2. Bonds
3. Mays
4. Williams
And Gehrig/Mantle 5.

In Griffey's defense he was named to the top 50 players in Boston at All Star game. Before he got hurt and all the crashes into wall caught up with him, he would have been ahead of Bonds in HR's I believe.

I am well aware that Barry Bonds wasn't the only player on steroids.
