Yep....IIRC, he was out-right 'banned' from STM, and another school. People are correct in saying that Napier turning that completely around is one of the biggest things he has done.

yup same at Acadiana. After he pulled a couple scholarships from local guys to give to a Texas or Florida recruit the coaches stop giving him the time of day. They sent a lot of kids to Mcneese during those years.

Just trying would've been bad enough, but it was the number of times that he succeeded that prolly caused him even more grief.

He was banned from STM because he tore up the baseball field with his helicopter landings. Plus, I heard he and an assistant coach would show up, stand around for ten minutes not talking to anyone, and then just leave.

Yup. All of those dark memories are coming back to me.

another glaring difference, Napier recruits local home grown talent and has a good relationship with local hs coaches. Billy is in the coaches offices shooting the shite and forming relationships while the only appearances Hud made was when he would fly in at half time on Fridays in an Acadiana Ambulances helicopter once a season.
Napier was also smart and savy enough to hire a staff with deep LA ties.
Rob Sale (north LA), Jabar Juluke (BR&NOLA), Desormeaux and Tim Leger (Acadiana & SW LA) together are respected and have relationships throughout the state . Napier himself recruited LA while at Alabama. HUD hired a bunch of his buddies from MS and AL that didn’t have the same rapport

It doesn't. That's the name of our university.

More importantly, here you are, a fan of the 'flagship' of the state, that is so fricking insecure about something in his life that you dig up a thread that was dead for ~2 months just so you can ask an asinine question about something as irrelevant and petty as what our name is. On top of all of that, you can't even troll correctly. You listed the official name of our school, which no one has an issue with.

ULL have a shortlist on who they'd call next if Napier goes up?
Posted on 10/22/21 at 11:43 am to wadewilson
Not really. But I have heard that he will be one of the biggest players in getting the new guy in.
But he is not going to lsu. I do not think he is Scott W's kind of hire....which would be a mistake IMHO. I don't think Napier will be upset by that. He is a very patient, disciplined man. He is very well set where he is now, and will only move when its a perfect fit.
I kind of think it will be Aranda, but also would not rule out Hermann.

No idea who we would hire next. Maggard is an excellent AD so I trust him.
When we hired Napier it was a kind of a boring hire at the time since nobody really knew who he was and he had no head coaching experience, but my God did it work out well.
Also at the time we just came off Hud basically destroying the program so any success would have been accepted.
Dr. Maggard, I am assuming will make another boring selection that hopefully turns out to be just what we need.

I'm just a fan, but I'd hope Napier is the call we'd make if we whiff on Franklin, Fickell, maybe 2 or 3 big names like that. But you're right, Napier doesn't seem like a Woodward hire at all.
And you could argue the validity of wanting a bigger name. This will be the hire that Woodward is judged on.

How bad was it really, though? Because 10 years ago the AD was paying a guy $200k to dip on the sideline, and .500 was a good season.
The appetite for good football in Lafayette has certainly improved.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that, unless we land a big fish I think Napier would have the considered the favorite.

I am a younger guy so I don't have the same awful taste in my mouth I'm sure a lot of older Lafayette guys do watching the program.
But right before Hud left those last 2 seasons were awful to watch.
An atrocious loss to USM in the NOLA Bowl in 2016 with Anthony Jennings at QB. Probably the single worst performance I've ever seen from a QB in a game.
2017 was awful also. I remember watching App State beat us 63-14 and he got fired the next day. Pretty brutal last two seasons compared to his first 4 seasons where he won 9 games each season.
