How big is the game this weekend for Nebraska @ Mizzou in your opinion?

HUGE. If the Huskers can steal that one on the raod, then you have to give them major consideraton. That win over Texas isn't all that great anymore, but they've won three in a row. I have UN going 19-10 heading into the Big XII tourney and they likely open with Baylor and then would have to play OU. Basically, UN can get into the dance with 20 wins as long as they win one of the following scenarios:

a) win at both Mizzou/Kansas State
b) win at Kansas
c) win two games in the Big XII tourney and have at least 20 wins

It's doable. They're my final team in as of today.

Wisconsin - While it appears Bo Ryan's team is getting their season back on track, nobody ahead of them in my recent projections lost. Badgers remain the first team out for the time being.

Current Projection - 66 out of 65...fail.

I do not even have them in my top 5 out, but am giving them more and more consideration. They play in a tough league and that is their main positive. I have them at 18-12 and 9-9 (two season ending wins over Indiana in a span of 2 weeks - not what they need). RPI is there. They just didn't beat the GREAT teams on their schedule.
Qwins: VA Tech, Green Bay, Penn State (2), Illinois

Qlosses: Texas, U Conn, Marquette, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois

Damage: 2-6 in the month of January

Oulook: Win at either Mich State and Minn and you're in. I don't think that happens and I predict Ohio State to start the party ruining next game up.

quote:

Penn State - Big loss, IMO. 6-6 in the Big Ten, three straight losses, and it isn't going to get any easier. Two games against Illinois, one against Minnesota and Ohio State remain. Uphill climb to say the least.

I have them out as of now, mainly b/c they've lost three in a row and horrible OOC schedule. I have faith tha they get another HUGE win like they got in East Lansing. I like them ending on a high note a 22-9 and 10-8. Still...OUT.

Qwins: Purdue,Michigan, Michigan State
Qlosses: Wisconsin (2), Minnesota, Michigan, Pudue
Damage: 2 losses to spot in the dance competitor, Wisconsin. Also, very weak OOC schedule.

everything else, we pretty much agree on.

One thing I have trouble with is that Utah was one of the last 5 in, yet they're a 10 seed. While K-State, NOT one of the last 5 in, is an 11 seed in that same section of the draw

Early Thursday action is yielding some interesting results. Is Notre Dame actually trying to make a run at a tourney bid? They are putting pasting on Louisville. Don't get excited, people. A win hardly puts them in. The tail end of their schedule, though, could get them to 9-9 or better in conference. Maybe it's good enough, maybe not. They need to finish hot and run wild in the Big East tourney.

You have Miami on there twice, and ASU is too low.

Some notes from Thursday night:

Notre Dame - Was that the team the national media hyped them up to be? If so, and if they can continue, they still have an outside shot to get in. Perhaps best-case scenario is to get back to .500 in conference (9-9) and win a couple in the Big East tourney. Still out of the tournament at this point, though.

Arizona - Got a win they badly needed over a fellow bubble team. Both teams are likely still in at the moment, but USC is sliding the wrong direction.

Utah State - Still in good shape at-large wise, moving to 24-1, 12-0 in the WAC with a win at Idaho. The win earns them a share of the WAC title (if I'm doing my math right), and they can clinch it outright and the top seed in the WAC Tournament with a win at Boise State on Saturday. Their BracketBuster against St. Mary's looms large. A win over SMC all but assures the Aggies a berth, barring a massive collapse.

Northwestern - The only BCS school never to make the NCAA Tournament. Doesn't look like they intend to do so any time soon, either. They weren't in the discussion, but there is no excuse for the Wildcats dropping that one at home against Illinois after being up 14 with five minutes left. For a ball-control team like Northwestern, that's a massive lead.

St. Mary's - They put up a good fight, but without Patty Mills they just can't beat Gonzaga. I don't think it can be debated that the Gaels are out right now at 6-4 in the West Coast Conference, but I'm not so close-minded that I don't think they can get back in. What sucks for them is that they REALLY need to beat Utah State. A good run (read: win them all) at the end of the season, get Mills back for WCC Tourney, and maybe. Maybe. Right now? No.

Miami was a mistake.

ASU wins tonight and I moved them up...but you miss the point of what a PROJECTION is.

Because of automatic bids that take up 12 and 13 seeds. 10 and 11's are often the last teams in.

FWIW, I changed it, but something tells me K State is about to go ona run.

Nice effort and they need about 3-4 more. Still WAY out.

By the way, I'm keeping L'ville at a 2. Pitino will get their asses in shape and win the Big east tourney...my projection.

I'm with you. I also think they beat UCLA on Saturday. They're in.

Northwestern

Proved that they are still the worst major team out there, along with Oregon State and Colorado -traditionally sucking wise. They exposed Illinois. Whoever the 11 or 12 seed is that gets to face the Illini will advance, I predict.

St. Mary's

As of now, first/second team OUT. So sad. I wish they win the conf tourney.

That was nearly a 40 point loss. Sucks that they get a 2 and LSU's main detractor is a 30 point loss to Utah.

A good team going through a slump. They probably got a bit overconfident after beating us on the road and let's face it - they play in a very marginal league...a triple A version of the Big East. They have talent. That doesn't diminish. How they respond from the Duquesne and Dayton losses will determine what they are really made of.

Make no mistake...Dayton is a very solid team and a lock for the tourney. The team that Xavier and Dayton should look out for is St. Joseph's. The Hawks could win that tourney and get three A 10 teams into the dance.

In my opinion both losses are about equal in awfulness. ND tok L'ville to OT at Freedom Hall. Nevertheless, Louisville had proved that they can be a dominate team. They have way too much talent not to. I think they got a bit headstrong going into the UConn game. Right now, I PROJECT that Pitino rallies the troops and they go on a run and win the Big East tourney.
