The swing in momentum that ultimately led to the Brazil victory started well before the subs happened. In fact, the swing started at the end of the first half.

The subs didn't help, I'll give you that.

The point is Brazil pounded our goal all half.

Rather, we simply caught this elite team by surprise, and couldn't keep up with them once they started playing their best.

That excuse would've worked if we'd lost to Spain but not this game. We didn't catch them by surprise, we defended superbly and took supreme advantage of our opportunities for a half. That level of execution (be it spurred by a wave of confidence after the two previous games) fell off, Bradley made some poor decisions (though our bench cannot be said to be strong) and Brazil took advantage of their opportunities.

No I am not. I never said we didn't earn the goals.

dont even bring that shite in here.

we fricking outplayed them in the first half

No doubt. Nobody is disputing that.

thanks to us being pussies and an unfortunate weak first goal, we crapped our pants

This is where I disagree. Again, it wasn't us being "pussies" or "choking" it was more a case of Brazil playing their best soccer in the second half. They are better than us. Accept it.

I watch soccer frequently, and we DID play like pussies in the second half. Or at least, we play enough like pussies to let a team as good as Brazil to take advantage of miniscule mistakes we were making.

Dempsey was the guy covering Lucio. I guess it makes sense because Onyewu, DeMerit, and Spector should be covering more important targets.

ETA: The fact that Bocanegra is not 100% really hurt. Maicon and the Brazilian midfielders were able to make some very nice runs against him on the left side because he gave up a lot of space and could not cover at the space level that he does at full strength.

A good argument. Perhaps we had more energy on defense in the beginning and they just wore us down?

I will buy that. We were winning balls in the first half, but we they wore us down by moving the ball and making us chase in the second.

That alone is not a death sentence. Spain was in the box so often but we frustrated so many of their attempts that they were left trying to cross from the wings toward the end. What is the death blow is when you have that constant assault without a prayer of putting up an effective counterattack.

Howard saved us against Spain. That could have turned out like this game.

Nobody is dusputing that Brazil is better than us, but we did PLAY BETTER than Brazil for 45 minutes, sadly we aren't at the level to play that good against such a good team for 90 minutes.

because we allowed them to

if you sit back against a team like brazil, they will get chances

we should never have sat back

Why the incredulity man? And why so combative?

No, that isn't what I said. Naturally, if Brazil is playing better, we are playing worse. Jesus you are just looking for something to fight about.

Look....Brazil possessed the ball and made us chase in the second half. Its not like we stopped trying to win the ball and stopped trying to attack.

Its just that we spent so much energy getting the ball that our attack became more frantic and disjointed once we did get the ball.

Brazil wore us down, man. It happens when you play against a better team.

we attempted an offense in the first half, so they had to respect it. when they didn't, we scored on them on the counter

when we don't attempt an offense, we have no threat, and they can just send everybody and shoot shoot shot

bob bradley special in the second half. Sit back and then pray on 40 and 50 yard passes

and then bringing in Bornstein and fricking Casey for good measure

Again, its not like we weren't trying to win the ball! Brazil possessed it, switched the point of attack frequently, made us chase, and wore us down.

I think we just couldn't sustain the energy on defense that we had in the first half, and on top of that Brazil started playing better.
