This is the main factor. I didn't see it as so much showing the ump up. He "said" his piece by drawing the line, and was going back to the dugout. If the ump takes this personally that the player didn't agree with his call, that's the umps problem.

Completely agree. And all this "showing up the ump" talk makes me laugh and then wanna break my computer. When the fvck did umps become these idolized omnipotent angels who can't be spoken to?

The guy wasn't even standing around to argue the call or anything like that; he drew the line, probably said 'you gotta be kidding me' or something like that (if there was extreme profanity or something like that involved then my opinion changes) and he walked away.

The umps needa be the grownups not insecure babies in these kinda situations.

If by towards the ump you mean behind him and in the opposite direction.

Why can't you "show up" an ump? I never really understood this. You really aren't showing up anybody. So he draws a line in the sand. The ump still isn't going to change the call, the game goes on, and the ump is still victorious.

he didn't even draw a line in the sand. he just kind of knocked at the dirt at the approximate place the ball went over.

it's not like he stopped, and said, "Here is where the ball was".

And he was right. That was a terrible call.
are umps these infallible gods?

frick that. part of baseball is also arguing with umpires.
And sometimes being great means calling it like you see it.
that ump overreacted.

This is the question that needs an answer. You can do whatever the frick you want in football without penalty (other than maybe a sideline warning). In fact, the referees often cower at the site of a pissed coach. In basketball, you can do basically anything you want as well, and the worst that happens is the other team gets a free throw or two.

Bottom line is that umpires need to develop some thicker skin. If Harper didn't say anything to that ump, he should have just warned him, and told him his actions weren't going to shrink his strike zone any the next time he came up.

That was a TERRIBLE call but a player cant show up an ump like that, anyone who thinks they can doesnt know shite about baseball. I know a few guys who coached him on Team USA and they all say he is the real deal but after watching his E60 show I hope he goes nowhere. He said he was going to hit .430 in the bigs which is SHITTING on every player who ever played the game. This little punk thinks he is almost 100 points better than Ted Williams and all he has faced is JUCO pitching. Give me a fricking break. I hope the first pitch he gets in pro ball is right in his ear. He needs some humility or he isnt going to do shite. RESPECT THE GAME AND THE PEOPLE WHO PLAYED IT BEFORE YOU!

8 inches. And it just pisses my off that these kids have no respect for the game. I was working with this kid DJ Peterson last week and he kept telling everyone he was gonna be a first round pick this year and he didnt want to change anything with his swing because he "mashes". Well myself and a few other guys there told some scouts what he said and I can promise you he wont even be in the first 3 rounds now. If you have an attitude like you are bigger than the game no one will want your arse. And if you were a baseball guy you would understand.

Well,I'm pretty confident Harper won't go undrafted. But I do get what you're saying. However, a lot of 16 and 17 year old kids are douches. Especially ones with that much talent. Most tend to outgrow it though. Harper will be humbled by the minor leagues.

I like this kid. Even moreso after watching his piece on E60.

And even if the kid is a bit cocky, can you blame him? Hell he isnt the one calling himself THE GREATEST EVER. That would be the media.

He earned the ejection, but the call was bad. If he doesn't like that call, he better not go to the national league.

Terrible call, but he deserved to be tossed (especially in amatuer baseball). You can't show up the umps like that. Also, the kid is a bit of an arrogant hothead, and I know guys that have seen him play in that league. His reputation with umpired likely did not help him. It's not football, so you can forget about those comparisons.

Whatever.....its still an a-hole thing to say! It shits on every player that has ever played the game. Millions of people have worked their asses off playing baseball and not one has ever even come close to those #s. The kid is a fricking idiot.

No doubt he will be the #1 pick...he has WAY too much talent. If you are as good as he is, and he really is that good from what I have heard, you should let other people do the talking for you. It just drives me crazy when high school kids act like they are the shite and all they have done is hit HS pitchers. Big fricking deal. I cant wait til he is in Double A and faces some Dominican throwing 102 who has no control. Lets see what a badass he is then.

I don't know if something was said, but I still don't understand why umpires have to make a big production out of a strike call.
