No shite sherlock.

There are plenty of idiots. I just not buying this bit like the competition is so good in JUCO. JUCO competition is way closer to elite high school baseball then it is to AA ball. Everyone is acting all amazed that he is crushing the ball at JUCO level. Don't get me wrong i think he's gonna be a great pro, but like his JUCO numbers really tell us anything.

Yo Barry,
I guess you will say that when he gets to the majors, he will see tougher competition than he saw in the minors? Just a guess.

Is that a fact? Let me guess, you played in AA and JUCO.

No but I know people that have and i follow baseball a lot.
Oh yea i forgot Colorado Northwestern Community College had a lot of future MLB players.

Who the hell said he was going to tear stuff up in the minors because he is playing well in JUCO?
I was merely poking fun at you because you made the obvious comment that minor league ball is better than JUCO. Then you went all PMS and started making post that made no sense. It was not my intention to hurt your e-feelings…
Edit: Kid can have all the physical tools in the world, but when he gets that big bonus who knows what could happen. Really big gamble for any major league team to take a young high school kid first overall.

He did what any phenom should do. He's absolutely crushing the competition.
quote:some JUCO leagues are better than others, but it's definitely a lot tougher than his competition in HS. He even admitted as much.

I don't have e-feelings, cause im on e-tranquilizers. My whole point was don't jizz yourself over his JUCO stats.

Someone stats that should get your attention though is Stephen Strasburg. Can wait to see what he does in the majors next month when he gets the call up.
Posted on 5/24/10 at 3:57 pm to 225rumpshaker
I don't think Strasburg is going to put up the same kind of numbers in the majors because the competition will be better than what he has faced in the minors...imo fwiw.

too bad he's not using a wood bat... last summer he was an average hitter with a wood... i still think he's gonna be a helluva player but he still has work to do

he's used a wood bat all season long up until the postseason. So most of those #s are with wood.
Barry, your comment was really obvious and I get why you're getting shite for it, but I see what you're saying and agree with it. Numbers at this point mean nothing, just as they don't anywhere in the minor leagues.
The question is whether he advanced in his skills in his time there. I'd assume he did, and probably matured there more than he would have in HS.
For the record I really wish all the comparisons between any college ball and any minor league ball would stop. They're ridiculous. The top programs in the country could MAYBE hang with Short Season rookie ball teams. Sometimes.

this is the measuring stick that i have always heard about college baseball ... low level class A ball at best ..

yeah and that's still pretty iffy honestly.
I always hear (and I don't mean this thread), that if you can play D1 then that's equivalent to AA, which is absolutely absurd. I've seen similar thoughts thrown around on here so I just wanted to kinda put that straight.

BMAC...serious question was wondering...when on inactive roster....how do you keep up with your pitching routine? Or do they send you to AAA?

yeah .. i have heard this assertion too .. that is absolutely insane when you consider the fact that a lot of AA talent is on the doorstep of the major leagues in a lot of cases ... in fact, outside of the bigs .. i have always found the best young talent in baseball to be playing at the AA level ...
Posted on 5/24/10 at 4:32 pm to TigahRag
yea anytime someone says major college ball is like AA ball I want to punch them in the face. A really good college team MAY have 4-5 guys make it to AA and beyond whereas an AA team is obviously made up of entirely AA players.
It's an old myth that apparently idiots still believe

I think that definitely used to be the case but now more and more teams are making their young guys go through triple a.
There's still gonna be a lot of guys who make the jump from aa to the bigs, but for the most part aaa is necessary

the AAA level is loaded with rehab assignments and old players just trying to hang on ... it is not unusual for someone to jump from AA to a september call up to the major league roster the next season ... i go to a decent amount of zephyrs games and some of these AAA rosters that come in -- the Zs included -- read like a "who used to be who" in baseball five years ago ..
