Georgia gets 3 weeks to rest and plan.
Backup QB forces them to distribute the ball to more people, become less predictable, and rely on the OL more.
I think this might make them a better team and harder to defend.

Agreed ND is overrated and I’m not a big Freeman fan. Maybe it will work out to be a favorable match up for UG, we will see.

I think Freeman is a pretty good coach, but the team overall is being over hyped.

If there’s a silver lining for Beck, it’s that -even though recovery is long- 9/10 come back better than there were to begin with after TJ surgery…

Purdy had surgery on March 10th after his injury during the NFC Championship and didn’t miss training camp. He did have a throwing schedule or limits during camp.

I thought some of it had a lot to do with throwing footballs instead of baseballs as in football the injury occurs more with trauma from a tackle or sack than the repetitive throwing by itself, but the below also mentions the surgery Purdy had. Not sure what surgery Beck had, but one article mentioned outside of any setbacks he would start throwing again in March (didn’t say whether if only in rehab setting or with limits during spring practices).

quote:

According to ESPN, Purdy was able to have the surgery completed with InternalBrace augmentation, a newer form of UCL repair that is less complex than Tommy John, which typically takes at least a year to recover. Purdy was fully cleared to return from injury in July and didn't miss any of the 49ers' training camp after undergoing surgery on March 10.

People need to quit shitting on Beck.

He had a bad stretch but he is still a very good QB.

Well, you've got to figure Kirby recruited someone with some talent.

A star player getting hurt can affect where his team is seeded in the NCAA Basketball tournament. Some will remember Kenyon Martin breaking his leg during the CUSA tournament after the 1999-2000 season. His Cincinnati team had been No 1 for most of the season, but the NCAA committee dropped them to a No. 2 seed for the tournament because of his injury. I've always wondered if Duke, Kansas or UCLA had was in that situation, if the committee would ever do that.

Since Beck got hurt, I have been wondering if a CFB team doesn't win their conference, but has a good enough record to make the tourney, if they'll seed them lower because of an injury to a star player. I'm thinking if it's Iowa State they might, but they wouldn't do that to Bama or Ohio State. .

He's looked awful at times but his numbers are way better than I thought they'd be.

Just last year you saw an injury to a key player effect "seeding". Florida St went undefeated AND won the ACC championship game. However, they were left out of the CFP in favor of TWO other conf. champs each with 1 loss (Texas and Alabama). The reason was FSU lost their starting QB. I agree that FSU wasn't as good as Alabama and Texas without Travis. But the selection/seeding shouldn't be based upon how the committee thinks a team will perform. It should be based upon how the actual performance in the regular season.

If Georgia loses to Notre Dame, particularly if the game isn't very competitive, I think you will see cries to get rid of conf. championship games because but for the SEC championship game Georgia would have their starting QB in the playoffs. However, the conf. championship games are "baked in" to the value of the TV contracts. The networks are not going to agree to essentially give up the conf. championship games. The only way they will do so is if they get something in return. That "something" is going to be additional playoff games, which means the field will increase from 12 to (at least) 16. The first round playoff games will take the place of the conf. championship games.

The real sadness of college football is going to be when a star defensive player on a top 4 gets a questionable targeting call in the second half and have to miss the first half of the playoff game.

This could happen in any game

To my point not winning with back up, seems as though Kirby and special teams coach needed more time to prepare.

Having a LT that couldn't block the blind side hurt more than a backup QB.

Obviously, the example that was set last year should have been followed so that another more competitive team could be in the playoff.
