If the fricking kids can't pay attention to a coach then they don't need to be on the fricking field to begin with.
Now, if there's more to this story, then I will revise my stance. However, if all we know is that the coach is getting fired because he hit balls at kids that weren't paying attention, then those kids are pussies and so are the parents that got the coach fired.

Just because he couldn't keep their attention, doesn't give him the right to hit one with a ball.

If they were at BASEBALL PRACTICE, and on a BASEBALL FIELD, and the kids weren't paying attention and got hit with the balls, then I'm sorry it's their own fricking fault.
Now, if they were just hanging out in the parking lot having a meeting, and the coach pulled out his Easton and starting pelting players with line drives, then that's a different story.

You make them run until they decide to practice.
You make them run some more until they decide to practice.
You keep making them run until they decide to practice.
And then you run them some more!
If the parents complain about that, you tell them to take a hike and go out for the track team.

I'd like to hear the whole story behind this.
I don't wanna assume anything, but if it comes out that one kid got plunked with a pop up because he wasn't paying attention, and the other kids laughed at him, and then he got humiliated so he told his parents, who then got the coach fired, then I wouldn't be totally surprised. That said, I'm sure there's more to it than that.

i'm almost willing to bet it wasn't a "this kid isn't paying attention so i'm going to drill him thing".
Probably more like a "I wasn't paying attention when i should have been and got hit so i'm going to make a big deal out of it because it hurt and i got yelled at." thing.

I'm gonna wait until more details come out, but I'm with ya. Speaking of details, it sure did get quiet in this thread when I asked for the "inside scoop" that a few claim to have.

Apparently he hit one of them and the kid's parents found out and it snowballed from there...
If parents had found out half the stuff that happened at practice when I was in HS.....Well, we (kids) would have probably gotten a good beating after we got home.
Yep, pussification!
First thing the new coach needs to do is cut those players who ratted.

My dad used to do this to me when I slacked off. I imagine if I would have told him about my coach doing this to me, he would have laughed.

Our coach used to hit grounders at us when we weren't looking. Never anything head level. You always knew your cup was your best friend.

My dad wouldn't have laughed. He would have beat my arse for not paying attention. And my dad's beatings were way worse than what a baseball would do.

Back in my machine pitch days, our coach would just crank up the old ball slinger and fire them at us for misplaying groundballs. And I was eight years old, not a junior or senior in HS. This is ridiculous.

mitch covington.
he played baseball at denham springs.
he was head coach at christian life and woodlawn before he went to central.
i cant believe he would do anything to hurt any player.

If I would told my dad that the coach pelted me with baseballs and it hurt my feelings, he would have laughed at me. I wouldn't have told him I was slacking off

Wise move.

shite like this is why you will continue to see increasing numbers of central Americans in the big leagues. Getting beaten with a chain is quite different from getting a couple of baseballs whizzing your way.
