Also, a good way to keep workload down for the year!

ETA: I wonder if this means that he can’t be on the postseason roster at all since it was minor league drug infraction

Who are we going to get to replace Yuli for the first five games? Are we going to stick Marwin in there or will we go with a combo of Marwin/Tyler White?

Holy shite i didn't expect that at all from this kid. Wonder if it was Cocaine or Adderall. I don't think they suspend for weed anymore.

He just tanked his 2018 chances. By the time he he's eligible he will have to build himself up. I don't see any way he gets the call this year now.

And just like that Whitley tumbles big time. Should have unloaded him when we had the chance. This just might break the kids psyche.

They suspend for weed in the minors. It’s so dumb

Was just reading online that they only suspend for 2nd offense (drug of abuse as opposed to PEDs) in the minors.

So this is the 2nd time he’s been popped

I believe they still test for weed in the minors but big league players can smoke all they want.

Maybe it was weed. I would be more worried if it's a hardcore drug. Hunch needs to give him the martes treatment.

I don't see how a kid with that kind of potential is that dumb.... Well yes I do... He's 20 years old.

I'd be shocked if they suspended him 50 games for just weed. The public spectacle of it alone would be over the top IMO. Either he's had issues in the past and this finally broke the camels back or he took something clearly much worse than weed.

Can confirm @Buster_ESPN report. Forrest Whitley suspended for 50 games. Source tells me Whitley was at an out of state college baseball game as a fan after his season was over and was given an unknown stimulant by a friend in order to help keep him awake on his long drive home.

Meh, when I was 20 I'd take a pill even if I didn't know what it was.

Source says the Whitley’s hired an attorney to try to challenge the MLB ruling because they’ve known for weeks this was coming down, but were unable to stop the ruling.

Definitely think this is why he wasn’t invited to ML camp, surely the Astros knew about it

Yeah, that's not good. How long does adderall stay in your system?

I'm assuming the story is actually worse than that though. No reason this kid should be forced to take a banned substance in the off-season.

Yeah. And it’s 50 games no matter the drug/substance

1). This MLB release on Whitley is notable because it doesn't follow the normal MLB drug suspension template. If it is a drug of abuse, it will normally specify that it is a second violation of a drug of abuse. If it's a PED, it specifies what PED it is.

2). This says it's a violation of the drug prevention and treatment program. Doesn't specify that he tested positive for anything (which normally is specified). Will be reporting on this further.

quote:

Looking at every MLB drug suspension notice of the offseason. Every other one (other than Whitley) specifies that it is a positive test. If it's a stimulant or PED, it specifies the substance. For drugs of abuse, it specifies that the player tested positive for drug of abuse.

Also wonder why he’d bother hiring an attorney
