RHP Francis Francis Martes is chucking the crap out of the ball already. Shotgun blasts in his bullpen. Slowed delivery down. Lost weight, grinded through ab exercises and stuck with throwing program in D.R. "He's throwing as hard as anybody in camp," A.J. Hinch said. Show pony

Intriguing developments. He definitely looked a bit portly last year and if slowing down his delivery helps to generate some repeatability/control, that's certainly not a bad thing.

I love seeing that. I kinda saw him as an AJ Reed type-sit on his laurels as a prospect and not make an adjustment to stick. Going to be tough to not be greedy and keep him in the pen as a backend reliever. Long term though may not be the best decision for him.

Hes kind of been written off our prospect lists. Its easy to forget he's just 22. We saw flashes of his stuff last year but consistency was a problem. Hopefully he can cut down on the walks and settle in at AAA this year and eventually make his way back up.

Riley Ferrell is lurking too, bad overall numbers last year, but didn’t give up a run over his last 10+ appearances

This is the immeasurable value of Verlander for a whole season. He walked over specifically to work with McCullers his motion.

I hope Whitley is glued to Verlander when he gets to come over to big league camp.

Martes can be as good as he wants. He needs to stop. Idolizing cueto. Glad to hear he's trimmed down some. I was at the game in Seattle when hinch remedies his arse out on the mound. One of the best things gs I've ever seen hinch do.

This is obviously the most offseason post ever, but I saw Bregs posted something about having a partnership with Easton gloves this season. Really surprised he left Marucci/Marucci didn’t pay up to keep him

Why don't the Astros have their logo on the back of the pitcher's mound like everyone else in MLB?

We got Gerrit Cole this offseason, so I'm not mad, but we do have one of the best logos in all of baseball, so why not show it off?

I think that pretty much assures him in the big leagues this year, barring performance or injury issues

Also, we’re playing make believe games Friday, so that’s fun

Was really surprised to see that too 5... wonder if he'll continue to swing Marucci?

I don't think that continuing to use Marucci bats would make much sense, but I don't know the circumstances surrounding this. I'm also surprised by it.
