Pretty excited by this move, sucks to have to give up VV but you have to give quality to get quality. Will be interesting to see if they try and sign a FA starter or if they pursue a trade with someone.

Wonder if his price was drove down by how he finished the year.

Will be interesting to see which of the young pitchers takes a step forward this season (ala LMJ).

Well by adding a closer, your 7th and 8th inning options now are much much much better.

You can't forget just how much we leaned on Harris and Sipp in the 8th. They were pitching every night. Now we get back a healthy Neshek and a great 8th inning guy in Gregerson.

for a pretty unproven bullpen guy,

If Giles is unproven, what do you call Eshelman?

Haha significantly more unproven, he's only a prospect obviously. But we didn't just give up 4 players for him. That's my point, that Giles will probably be good, maybe even very good, but I am just concerned we gave up a lot for him. I supposse that's what the market dictates right now though.

think he can be a good 3/4 starter in a couple years
The Astros literally have those guys in spades in the minors right now. It makes total sense to deal from a position of strength vs giving up some position player guys where they are thin.

Plus Giles has 5 years of team control, he will be the closer on this every year playoff team until at least 2020. I see this as a win win for both teams but obviously helping the Astros much sooner.

Losing Eshelman and VV does kind of stink. Gaining Giles is huge though and instantly improves our bullpen dramatically. I really think Giles is a future great closer. He has all the "stuff" and the mindset to be one.

A high velocity closer is what we were really missing last season to come in and shut out games. Greggerson was good, but I really think he's better in a set up role.

I don't mind what we gave up to get him at all because I see his ceiling as higher than everyone we gave up.

I love how Sipp has developed into a guy who can get hitters from both sides of the plate out. That change up to right handed bats is nasty.

Agreed, but I think Houston has enough middle rotation pitching prospects to cover the loss of Eshelman. Had it only been VV, Obie, and Fisher for Giles, that would have been borderline trade rape hahaha but I think both teams come out ahead with Eshelman thrown in. If Giles continues what he has done for a year and a half now, I dont mind the move in the slightest.
