re: Just voted against John Cornyn

I like him well enough. He checks the most important box which is he will vote for the correct judges. Everything else from there is secondary. It’s nice to have a Texas based Senator in a position power. He stepped on a rake with his silly gun bill which I hated but in the grand scheme of things that’s pretty trivial especially relative to the court.

And yes he is way more electable in a general. He would likely win by 15 or so in what will likely be a blue wave year with a more appealing (fake) “moderate”. He won by 30+ last time.

Would you prefer Cornyn or Talarico?
You can say that about any post at all on TD, so pound sand mate

Cornyn is conservative enough and Paxton has been painted as a corrupt piece of shite running against an “anti-corruption” candidate in Talarico.

That said, most of the idiots on here claim to be conservative but will scream and cry at any mention of social media security and Medicare

Ha I appreciate that. It’s depressing how illogical and uninformed the base is. Social media is the devil.

Why? Because I don’t want the GOP primary voters once again to blow themselves up because of muh feelings? I’ve already laid out my reasons. Talarico has no business being anywhere near the U.S. Senate on the behalf of Texas, but Paxton is a disaster area and will make the race really close, whereas Cornyn will win comfortably. And if Talarico wins, most of the morons on here will throw their hands up and say the republic is lost anyway.

Good. Nationalizing elections is horribly self-sighted and giving away the republic to the democrats forever

Did nothing about illegal immigration

What are you talking about? He’s been a big supporter of the administration on this

Is only concerned about taking money from lobbyist instead voting for the will of his constituents

Lmao, even if this were true, you would view this as a reason to support Paxton?

Thanks for the reminder. I have a busy day. But I will make sure I get to the polls and vote for Cornyn.

It’s the U.S. Senate. They are all establishment animals by definition. They serve 6-year terms and until 1912 weren’t even elected directly by the citizenry. You mainly want your guy to be a powerful member within that body to exert influence on the behalf of your state, and Cornyn is one of the most senior and important members within the chamber which is good for Texas. But mainly most of all in this era you want your guy to win and reliably vote for the correct judges, which Cornyn has.

I am probably slightly more aligned with Paxton on policy but it’s not a worthwhile gamble, nor is it worth the distraction and wasted money by the GOP because it will be a very competitive race if Paxton is the nominee.

I get it though. Cornyn comes across as nice and polished, and is a white haired, mild mannered white guy. So we don’t like him.

That’s retarded and makes zero sense , I’m not taking a money line type of bet

How much are you willing to wager that a Paxton-Talarico race is not within 5 points?
Cornyn literally won 65-33 in 2020, but okay yeah he’s a fricking loser

Making money-politics jokes as a supporter of Paxton is probably not a good idea

Absolutely not, it will be a lot closer than it should be against Talarico. Maybe even a coinflip. Whereas Cornyn would win comfortably.

Just voted for a blue wave! Congrats
Yep. And they had a clean week this week too
If Arsenal see this through, still an embarrassing performance

That's a government mismanagement issue, not a funding issue. Had the collected taxes from boomers been properly invested and managed, the system would not need money from millennials to fund it.

Who was running the government and voting for said mismanagement?

If you want equal payouts then it's only fair to require equal inputs. How the frick is it fair for one person to pay 3 or 4 times more than the next person but get the same SS check?

No solution is fair. Millennials entering the middle part of their careers may never see social security, and yet they are expected to fund boomers until they die over the next 25 years. And if nothing is done and the system inevitably collapses, what happens to the millennials’ kids (and thus the boomers’ grandkids)? How is that fair to them? Not only do they get money drawn from their checks to fund older generations who were too fiscally profligate to be able to pay for their own benefits, they also get to see their kids saddled with a horrific fiscal crisis as they enter their own careers.

I used to roll my eyes at the intergenerational feuds on here and elsewhere, but I would trade places with someone born in the ‘40s or ‘50s in a heartbeat.
