I would still rather give up fisher over Appel personally. Our SP depth in our system just got much thinner

Idk, our OF prospects were starting to take a hit with these trades. Gomez and Colby are free agents next year and the free agent OF crop really sucks next year. Phillips and Fisher were 2 of our closer OF prospects. Daz and Tucker won't be ready for a while. I think were actually deeper with SP than OF at the moment. I'm still unsure about giving up Appel but Fisher may be needed in a season or so.

Wow. And thus ends the Appel saga.

We really need to add a SP. Sign Kazmir and call it an offseason.

Give Singleton and Reed a chance to compete for everyday 1B spot in ST.

I think we end up with Kaz. I don't hate it, he was a good pitcher last year. Just kind of faded down the stretch. I'd really like to see Luhnow pull off a Tyson Ross trade.

You guys still think lunhow can do no wrong? Lol. He should be a minor league scouting coordinator. He's mostly out of his elements that at GM.

Yeah, he n only tookan organization with 100+ losses and baron farm land and turned them into contenders faster than anyone believed he could.

I think I speak for 99% of the people here when I say I wish you would go the frick away and stay away. At the very minimum, at least shut the frick up if your going to lurk. Your next banning can't get here soon enough.

At least we can stop having anxiety attacks every time Appel pitches I guess. As mediocre as he's been, there was still hope that the results would eventually match the stuff. Who made the call to swap Appel for Fisher?

About the SS we got:

The one headed to Houston along with Giles appears to be a legitimate prospect.

I predict more anxiety, especially if he starts pitching well.

This 5 for 2 trade with Appel is better than the 4 for 1 involving Fisher, imo. So, yeah, I am still a big fan of JL. And I say that as someone who has always been a pro Appel guy (and still am). Scouts can tell us that he is the 1st or 2nd best prospect in our system for the last few years based on talent, but the reality is that his talent still hasn't put together one full solid year in the minors and his perceived ceiling as a SP drops with each new season. A once sure top of rotation pitcher is now looked at as he "might" be a #3 with upside. Astros would have made a big gamble keeping Appel this season - If Appel once again struggles this upcoming season in MiLB, then any value to move him is pretty much gone as he'd become seen as a #4 or 5 with upside. I agree with shipping him out now while he still is guaranteed to have some value left and, for his sake, hopefully the change in scenery does him well. Meanwhile, he helped net us what everyone believes is one of the best young closers in the game.

That sounds like something bigger than a Kazmir/Gallardo signing to me. Maybe Carrasco or Ross?

Well said.

If Appel didn't have #1 overall pick attached to him, we'd be looking at a pitcher with a 4.50+ ERA at the AAA level and a career 5+ ERA. We wouldn't be batting an eye at this chump being shipped off. But because of the title, he's a high upside pitcher hoping he can succeed. Numbers say that he probably wont.

Chalk it up to a terrible #1 pick that you wish you could take back. It's not the first time a team chose wrong with the pick and I assure you, it won't be the last. Time to move on.

If we don't sign Kazmir I think we make a trade for someone like Carrasco or Ross. My list of preferences would be

Carrasco
Ross
Kazmir

But I'm cool with resigning Kazmir
