Quick rundown?
Posted on 12/15/15 at 8:32 am to Prominentwon
Basically says we gave up a lot but with 5 years of control Giles is worth it. He has the type of stuff to miss bats at the end of games and be a dominant reliever at the end of games. Was also positive on Arauz, the prospect we got, saying the fact we got him added in says a lot about our scouting and front office. He likes Fisher's potential a lot so he said subbing out Fisher for Appel and adding in Arauz basically makes it a wash in his eyes.
Law is usually pretty negative on teams giving up valued assets for relievers so the fact he doesn't hate it is interesting

At this point -- I'd rather them sign Keuchel, Correa, and Springer to long term, team-friendly deals.
then I wake up.

Keuchel's will get done IMO

We would have to give up 2 of our top 3 and then atleast 1-2 more of the top 10 for him. I don't mind making moves but we can't go and trade the entire farm away. We should be picking at the bottom of the draft for now on so they will have to be careful about who they give up. Also I have the feeling crane isn't going to be willing to pay all the guys we have now when they are ready for free agency? so we will need cheap replacements for the future.

For all we know, we may have just traded for the next Kimbrel, Chapman etc and we got him for five years.
This is my hope, and he will be cheap for 5 years. I'm still a little bummed about giving up so much but it will obviously make this team a lot better next year

Watching it now. Never knew about the Continental League creation bluff to get into MLB.

@EvanDrellich: Baseball source said Astros are looking for a right handed hitting first baseman. Makes sense as potential platoon partner with Singleton.
I'm really hoping Reed could establish himself as a everyday first baseman. This platooning shite doesn't work.

I think it can definitely work. I'm glad they're looking for another bat to put there
Also I thought I remember that Reed has pretty wide splits between righties and lefties.
Actually maybe not. Regardless it's not like Gattis set the world on fire so having someone else who can contribute there also is a good thing IMO

Anyone else not at all convinced that Singleton holds on to a starting job? I try to keep my player bashing to a minimum, but I have no confidence in him at all. I envision Chris Carter-esque type production with him (great pop, little to no value anywhere else). I'd gladly love to be proven wrong on him, but the thought of him starting at the beginning of the season for a playoff caliber team makes me weep.
If he gets 400 ABs in a platoon this season, what is his projection? .240/.320 OBP with 18-22 HRs and a 30-35% K rate?

I think he's going to have a pretty short leash. Your stat line is probably the ideal scenario honestly. If he does what he's done in the past I think they will quickly pivot to Reed

Margo can play first when we go against lefties, no use in having a full time DH and 2 first baseman on the roster.

Yeah, I was being a little generous thinking maybe he adjusts somewhat with regular at bats. Think his K rate in limited action right now is over 40%

When your fourth OF can easily play all three spots and utility guy can play both IF and OF it's a luxury you can afford

It's amazing that Tucker won't have an automatic spot on this roster by default.
Speaks to our outfield depth.
