Yeah, I just don't know what he would add. It's a good problem to have. The only regular you would lift him for to pinch hit would likely be Castro. I just don't know how much he would play and I would rather he be getting every day ABs at AAA in case someone gets hurt

Just saw where we were mentioned (along with Nats) in regard to Mike Leake

TCB had an article today on what the Giles trade could mean for the bullpen by adding a seemingly elite level closer and bumping Luke Gregerson an inning ahead. I checked out the stats and it seems like in addition to adding a closer with Giles repertoire, the bullpen could also benefit from moving Gregerson back to his familiar 8th inning setup role.
7th inning 117IP 4.15ERA 106H .242BAA
8th inning 209IP 1.98ERA 149H .197BAA 11HR
9th inning 108.2IP 3.06ERA 91H .222BAA 11HR
Neshek has also been primarily an 8th inning guy so the sample size is bigger in that role but he's also been effective in the 7th. So we could bump him to the 7th inning role which would be shared among him, Harris, Fields, Sipp while Neshek could also be the backup for Neshek in an 8th inning role.
7th inning 59.2IP 1.96ERA 36H .176BAA
8th inning 167IP 2.96ERA 133H .218BAA
9th inning 57.1IP 2.04ERA 32H .160BAA
7th inning 117IP 4.15ERA 106H .242BAA

Ugh. Realllly don't want Gallardo. Aside from having to give up our draft pick to the Rangers, all the stat geeks say his ERA overachieved vs his peripherals. Suggests he should regress next year.

I hope the Gallardo interest serves the purposes of pushing the Rangers/another AL team to want to pay him AND letting Kazmir know we could go another direction. The latter is key because I suspect he will want to pitch in his hometown if the money and years are reasonable.
I want to keep Kazmir now (but for 4 years at the very most) because I think we will then limit his innings early in the season to keep him fresh for the long haul. He threw no fewer than 91 pitches in his first 10 starts last year. I think he could benefit greatly from a little coddling the first two months of the year.

I get the not wanting to give Rangers a pick but that'll happen if he signs anywhere besides Texas

I care more about giving up our pick than the Rangers getting it, if that makes sense. I don't think Gallardo is worth it

I think you have very high expectations for Singleton with these numbers. I see him hitting .200 with maybe a .300 OBP, and I would be shocked if he got numbers close to that. Either way, I hope we do get a decent 1B off free agency, and if not, we have Singleton on a short leash.

I don't want Gallardo to be honest. He doesn't have the most filthy stuff, and he walks too many people.

I'm not impressed with Gallardo overall, but he seems to pitch well against the Astros.
I would prefer to see Kazmir back.
