re: DAT 8/5 | HOU 5 - ARL 0 | F

Wtf is going on? Ducked my head into the DAT to catch up on the daily bitch fest and I see nothing but logical and thoughtful baseball discussions?
I like it.
To add to the discussion:
These threads have all been unanimous about believing White, Reed, and Bregman (and even Tucker) were all going to have immediate impact to the Astros lineup similar to the results the Cubs have been fortunate to benefit from the past two seasons. Where do the Astros stand if just 2 of those 4 could play at the big league level as they did in AAA? Personally, I think they would be in first place of the division. Yet, for some reason, they regress horribly once they get called up. That isn't Luhnows fault. Maybe it is Hinch. I don't think so... I think it goes to preparation for each at bat... They simply aren't prepared. And they aren't making proper adjustments... That points to the (non) hitting coach.
I would like to see Hinch become more of a players' coach and less of a front office coach. His tenure in AZ was more player-sided style. I think he has to find a happy medium. His in game decisions have been questionable at times... But he has also made some good lineup adjustments. He's also been the victim of having solid decisions back-fire-- Harris as closer.
As fans, we are often quick to see the mistakes but slow to see the actual smart decisions.
My biggest frustration is with both Luhnow and Hinch being so reluctant to admit mistakes, correct them, and move on: Sipp, Gomez, and I hate to say it, Rasmus.
On Rasmus, I hated the signing before last season and loved the QO before this season. He has become my favorite baseball personality on the team. But he and Gomez are air craft carrier size anchors and we have only room in the anchor well for Marisnick... His defense is better, he's cheaper, and he has better hair.
Gomez needs to go.

I also just want to point out how it's kinda ridiculous how the Rangers have their record when all of their metrics point to a not so great team. Like damn

And not just the major league hitting coach, but the minor league instructors as well. Their job is to prepare them for success at the big league level

My worry is that they skated by like that until the deadline and then made serious upgrades at the deadline to where they are that good now. We will see

True. Well help you guys for the WC this weekend with the Sox

Hate to say it, but this is why we will get destroyed tonight.
1. Martin Perez is 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA against Houston, and he has a 1.80 ERA in three starts at Minute Made.
2. Dallas is 0-3 against the rangers this year with a 7.91 ERA in 3 starts.
3. Oh yeah, and our offense is currently a dumpster fire...
Go Stros

Perez
W-7 L-7 ERA 4.22
ER last 5 games 7-5-7-3-1
Hitting coach needs to advise the players WTF is going on. No pitcher that bad owns a team. Maybe one or two players because of his release or some other valid reason or even totally mental reason, but not a team.

If a guy has been historically dominant against us, he'll pick up right where he left off.

Martin Perez is a LHP who has dominated us in his career and hasn't pitched well recently. We in trouble

All of our hitters, BA against LHP
Altuve exact same avg
Springer 20 better
Correa 60 worse
Stats don't support that, except for Correa. I didn't look at the rest of the guys, I just finished lunch.

The Astros are batting an AL-worst .234 against LHPs this season. Tonight they face J.A. Happ, who has a 3.16 ERA through 21 starts.
And this was before Happ dominated us last night.
ETA: We're at .223 vs left handed starters. .250 vs RH starters.

For changing it to Texas.
Good luck tonight baws. Hoping for a good series from both teams.

Gonna be a fun weekend. Don't know what to expect from Perez or Harrell, and Yu can't get any run support. For all the luck the Rangers have had this year, Darvish hasn't had any. I'll be happy for the Rangers to take 1 this weekend.
ETA: don't fully buy in to the "Rangers are just lucky" narrative but you don't lead the AL in wins without having a fair amount of it.

Based on trends, expect at least two low scoring games out of the three. I'm buying into the LED light thing at MMP. Last series between the teams in Houston, there were a pair of 2-1 games. Of course, the Ranger lineup is now better while the Astro lineup is worse.

Yeah, every team that has a record like Texas does is going to have some luck there. Texas has been VERY good at hitting with runners in scoring position this season and when they haven't been good at that, they've randomly had the long ball going.
In addition, they also have forced a ridiculous amount of double plays this year as well. Texas is averaging 1.3 double plays this season, tops in the league. The next closest team is Minnesota with 1.08 per game.

He's a better hitter than defender. So he's got that going for him.... Which is nice.
