Cruz will be a one year deal. Don’t think it has any impact on signing Correa or Springer long term. Correa isn’t even going to entertain a long term deal this offseason coming off the year he had anyways
I would rather trade for Goldschmidt though and rotate people into the DH spot

Even if it were for 2 years, it would be a good idea to entertain a Cruz signing. A short term contract like that does not affect anything the Astros will want to do long term.
I also think it would be a bad idea to sign Springer to a long term contract. He's a good player but will likely be looking for a 4/5 year contract at maximum value. It's going to be his first real big contract so he's going to try to capitalize. I not so sure he ages too well IMO. You're pretty much on point with Correa.

Yeah I guess with the year Cruz had he could get two. I wouldn’t be upset if we did it at all. I am kind of with you on Springer even though I love him. If they could find a deal where they tack on a few years after arb instead of paying him for 5+ after arb I would be good with it, but I doubt he does that for the reasons you stated

Given that he is 29 it’s going to be his only big contract.

Springer will get something similar to Lorenzo Cain assuming there is no drop off this season.
I think the Astros do extend him again tho. Altuve intimated that crane promised him he would keep the core together and that is why he signed the long term deal.
I think Correa is the one that has to prove something put of the core 4. But the Astros have time.

I wonder what it would cost to extend JV for a few more seasons.

The Marlins are busy talking to teams about J.T. Realmuto, the de facto best catcher in the game. The Astros, Dodgers and Yankees are among many teams that have showed interest. Houston is seen as a possible destination, but as of Tuesday, Marlins people denied the Astro were in the lead.
The Astros are believed willing to include Kyle Tucker, who is the type of lefthanded hitter the Marlins like, but probably not top pitching prospect Forrest Whitley. The issue with the Yankees' talks apparently is that they still hold Gary Sanchez in high enough regard that they have resisted offering other top pieces in a package with Sanchez. The Marlins, who are run by ex-Yankee types (Derek Jeter, Gary Denbo) seem to like Sanchez as well but are hoping for a major package for Realmuto.

Not entirely surprising

Yes to goldy no to Realmuto. I’ll be really pissed if we give up Tucker for Realmuto but not for yelich (I was all on board for that move last summer)

Meh.
Realmuto is a known quantity. Tucker is still a question mark.
Trading one for the other fills a hole in the lineup, I’d be fine with it

Source tells me the Nathan Eovaldi market is heating up, with Red Sox and Astros viewed as two of the leading contenders. Other teams remain in the mix, as well.

Nats are trading for Yan Gomes. They already picked up Kurt Suzuki so they're probably out on any of the remaining catchers.
Braves signed McCann as a backup or platoon partner to Tyler Flowers who's highly regarded defensively.
We should be able to pick up one of Grandal, Ramos or Realmuto if we want to
In other news, former Astros great Bob Grossman was non tendered by the twins today. Honestly I wouldn't hate him in a backup OF role but we've got several of those types already. Grossman's average season with the Twins was 116 games .266 average .371 OBP 23 doubles 8HR 43RBI 61 walks 83K.
Other intriguing non tendered players:
OF Avasail Garcia
LHP Dan Jennings
RHP Blake Parker
RHP Brad Boxberger
RHP Shelby Miller

I’d be pretty surprised if one of Grandal/Ramos/Realmuto isn’t our catcher a month from now. Of course Luhnow could make a deal for someone unexpected like Cervelli from the Pirates or Tucker Barnhart in Cincy. Hopefully Atlanta and Washington no longer needing catchers perhaps weakens the Marlins leverage a little bit with Realmuto. They don’t want to wait around and not be able to move him
Meh on Avasail or Grossman. We got Jake and Kemp plus I’d rather Tucker/young guys get chances
I 100% support any move we make for pitchers though just cause of our history
If Strommy sees something he likes then that’s all I need to hear

Shelby Miller is an interesting name. He was pretty bad last year coming off the Tommy John and he was headed in the wrong direction even before the surgery. But he's still young and did pitch to some success early in his career.

Astros non-tendered Chris Herrmann. Odd move after plucking him off waivers but that might signify Luhnow feels good about finding another catcher soon.

The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres are expected to check in. The Washington Nationals, with whom he has spent his seven major league seasons and who offered him a 10-year deal worth around $300 million toward the end of the season that Harper rejected, almost certainly will circle back. Harper’s affection for the Houston Astros is well-known, as is the St. Louis Cardinals’ for him.
Pardon? I don't think I knew this.
Posted on 12/4/18 at 2:34 pm to Lsuhoohoo
Didn’t know that either. I could see how Harper would mesh well with guys like Bregman and Springer though
Still don’t see how we would be a realistic player money wise
