Yeah I don't want to give him up. He adds in so much flexibility aside from just being really good and young

If Rosenthal is right and we do land Beltran (presumably as a full time DH) I guess Gattis would just be a platoon catcher

McCann will help to police the diamond

Good thing Gomez isn't still around. McCann would be leaving him daily rules reminders in his locker

I cant see them adding Beltran at his price. They won't have enough ABs for everyone to justify that signing

Just a reminder, today is deadline for teams to add players to the 40 man to protect them from rule 5 draft.

I don't think the Astros will make any moves, but who knows. I think we are now at 39 with the additions of McCann and Reddick

I think he could be very valuable in that role. He's proven to break down throughout the season in the role of catcher. McCann is 32. Playing matchups could be huge.

Gattis hit .288 last year against lefties and ten hone runs with ten doubles, in 156 ABs

McCann hit .249 against righties (.218 against lefties) with 17 home runs and 11 doubles in 342 ABs.

We can keep them both fresh and for once we may have some depth at catcher. A foreign idea to Astros fans, unless we considered Castro backed up by Hammerin Hank as depth.

I agree it seems far fetched. I don't think Beltran would want to be in a position where he maybe wasn't getting everyday ABs also

Nvm I counted the 40 man on MLB app and it's at 39 without having Reddick added so I guess we do have 40

There are some names I totally forgot were added like Aplin and Fontana

You'd like to think Chapman will be the first one kicked to the curb in the event we have to make room followed closely by Peacock and Singleton

I just hope Arlington doesn't sign a huge impact player. Always been a fan of Desmond's play and really hope he leaves the division

Reddick makes Aoki a non-tender candidate

Makes sense to me. We have enough young outfielders and could save ~$6.5M to use elsewhere.

If we're carrying 5 OFs and non tender Aoki who takes his spot?

Right now we have
Springer
Reddick
Aoki
Hernandez
Marisnick

I guess you would replace him with Fisher? That's kind of scary. I don't want to be in a situation where Marisnick is playing everyday. He was arguably the worst OF in MLB at the plate last year

There's still the possibility that Gurriel could play left. Marwin can fill in there too. A lot of last season we only carried 4 guys

If we are carrying four Marisnick should be the odd man out

Spring Training will tell us a lot about the Outfield/First Base Roles

I like McCann because he has balls. Finally someone to stick up for the team. Hinch has already drafted an apology letter for his first fight.

All of this.

Trade springer
I'd rather throw a bunch of prospects and keep Springer. I know his bat is streaky, but I don't think we've seen his breakout season yet, and when it happens, it will be a huge year.

Only way Springer should be traded is if it brings in Sale. Springer as part of an Archer deal is not worth it.

Thoughts on Trevor Plouffe?

We've already got 2 legit third basemen so Plouffe isn't much of a fit.
