I would have fine if he had left Avilan in honestly for 1-2 more batters.

Preferably Kimbrel starting the 8th with whoever the frick you want in the 9th.

Hell, throw Minor out there.

Old school baseball mentality has buried so many teams. None more often in recent years than the Braves. It was Cox' Achilles heel.

Absolutely. It absolutely is and I am not mad at Carpenter either. You put your best in the position that gives you the best chance to win right there. Period. After those 2 batters the rest of the Dodgers hitters were weak sauce.

They have a good point.

There were a lot of questionable calls by both coaching staffs. Apparently, the Dodgers made fewer. I thought that the fielding errors made by LA tonight was going to cost them the game.

Games 2 and 4 were pretty damned exciting.

Like I said I get the typical decision of set up 8th inning to closer 9th in regular season.. but in this game with the current batters coming up with the lead and the batters who followed them.. I would have had my best out there to face those 2 guys and if they beat me there then at least I know I had my best vs their best chance to win at that point in the game.

You guys expect too much. Atl played a good series..against a superior team.

Atl still too feast or famine at the plate, HR vs SO, low hit nights and lacking station to station contact, working counts. Lack the elite frontline power aces that Schilling always talks of for playoff ball, that the LAD, St.L, Det, Bost,etc..do have..despite what the regular season Atl stats tallied.

As for some of the Frediot bashing..feel free!

I know there has been a lot of trolling between Cards and Braves fans around here but I respect your team and your fans.

Sorry things ended this way for you all. I know it sucks but you are and have been part of the National League elite for the better part of two decades. Many playoff appearances since the early 90's and many more to come.

i don't think it needs to be abolished. i just think managers need to stop having the mind frame of saving a guy for the 9th.

I would've went Kimbrel in the 8th, hopefully making quick work of Puig, Uribe and Schumaker. Have Minor ready for the 9th just in case.

In the 9th would've been Ellis, PH and Crawford. First sign of fatigue, bring in Minor to seal the deal.
But what the frick do I know

I agree that the Braves lack an elite starter. Have not really gone after high upside starters in the draft and don't have the payroll to sign one.

Disagree totally with the assessment of the offense. It was definitely good enough to win this series, hell home runs are what won the series for LA.

Is that a real question? With two runners on base in a one run game in the eighth inning of an elimination game? I put in Kimbrel every damn time. Let him at least get out of the eighth, and then unless he's thrown a ton of pitches and is tiring, let him finish the game. You let your best pitcher pitch in the high leverage situations. If he couldn't finish the ninth, you being in Walden, Hale, whoever the hell you want at that point.

If I'm Kimbrel, I'm also not too happy with my manager saying on national TV that he doesn't think I'm capable of getting six outs, even with two days of rest and an off day tomorrow.

All this makes me remember hearing Brian Kinney argue back in like May how the 8th inning is the most high pressure inning and that's when you should use your best pitcher if need be. He was lambasted by the guys on MLB network for it.

You are some kind of a-hole. Superior team?

We had this game won and series tied up heading back to home if not for one boneheaded decision.. so gtfo with that mentality.

LAD - Should be in a game 5 on the road right now
STL - Is heading to a game 5
Det - Lost today to the A's, who very much resemble the Braves the past 2 seasons with feast and famine.
Boston - Lost today

Braves had an opportunity to win this series and pissed it all away by not putting their best in when the game mattered most.

Kimbrel was clearly pissed and quite confused when they showed him early on in the 9th.
