The concussion issue is only going to keep getting bigger and bigger. And there is no way to play the game of football as we currently know it and reduce concussions.
Actually concussions will keep getting more prevalent as the players continue to get bigger and faster. More and more parents (especially from middle class and up families) are going to not allow their kids to play.
You can deny that, but it's the truth.

Add in to all that the fact that the worldwide popularity of baseball takes a humongous dump on that of football.

Yeah baseball has probably 2x the participants worldwide as football.
Once school districts start getting sued by parents/organizations over head injuries, football is in a LOT of trouble.
Not to mention that the concussion lawsuits have barely just begun at the college level.

You clearly do not understand simple economics.

Everything you said is correct. Just think the NFL is too big to take a big seat to the NHL/MLS or whatever you consider the 4th sport.

Bill Dewitt paid 200Mil for team and Both parking garages from Brewery. Sold Parking garages for 100Mil.
100mil now worth 1.8bil Nice investment, the team prints money.

Hockey is on a pretty big growth trajectory too, and we see it every day stretching more and more into So Cal, Texas and Florida. That is HUGE for hockey.
Shoot St. Louis (not really a hockey hot bed) just had 5 FIRST round draft picks this past summer. And the rookie of the year, Auston Matthews, is from Scottsdale, AZ.
It will take a while, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the NHL could catch the NFL. That is unless the NHL runs into their own concussion problems and there have been grumblings.
MLS will never be top 4 because the best players won't come here in their primes. Way too much money for them in Europe.

They are also the most profitable team in baseball so it's not like he's just building an asset.

That's why i said they print money. They make money hand over fist. But play the Mid-Market label to the max.
And next season start a huge TV deal.

It's amazing what the Cardinals do for STL.

Baseball as an organization especially now under Manfred is probably the most solidly run of the big 4 sports...except obviously for marketing. But in most other aspects, it's amazing.
Locally, the teams are extremely strong, and unlike the NFL, actually going to a game is still fun and enjoyable.
I would also bet as football becomes seen as more dangerous, parents, especially those middle class and above, will begin funneling more kits into baseball. Soccer is perhaps as dangerous as football concussion wise, and you can't live in the US to play on the highest level.
Basketball only a handful of physical freaks can play, but baseball is the best of both worlds. It had a low catastrophic injury factor and careers are long and salaries are massive and guranteed.
Plus, you have a massive international talent pool to also draw from.
The game will stay healthy for a long long time to come.
A Baseball team would be a good investment for a billionaire.
Of it was me, I worked but the Rays or possibly the A's and move them to either Montreal or maybe even a place like Portland.

MLS has to have enough talent someday to play Champions League. If/when that happens, I think it will change American soccer culture forever.

Yeah I saw they had the 13/14th highest payroll to start the season.
And if they don't start playing better there are going to be a lottttt of people questioning leadership.
They can easily support a top 5-8 payroll every year. But they have been reluctant to do so. The fans are fine with the 'mid-market' spending persona as long as they are winning.
If they don't win, this will not be the case.

We'll see. It would be cool. Soccer is a great sport but I could never get into cheering for a team playing over in a different continent.
Consumption of sports in America are driven by middle and up white kids and their families. That's the way it is and will be for at least a few more generations.
The most popular sports with younger white kids these days are hockey, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. Those sports are in a good position. Not to mention that latinos favorite sports are baseball and soccer and latinos are the fastest growing population demographic.
ESPN MASSIVELY overpaid for NBA rights, and once that deal ends in however many years, you'll see basketball start to slip as well (ETA: basketball the game will probably be fine, but the current value of NBA franchises is extremely inflated).

It will be interesting to see how this plays out long-term. Back around 1900 I believe that horse racing, baseball, and boxing were the three most popular sports in the US. Starting around mid-century, football grew and grew, becoming by far the most popular sport in America. Basketball, and to a lesser degree hockey have become more popular. Tennis, golf, and NASCAR all had pretty major rises and falls.
In the last twenty years some people were basically writing off baseball as dead. Now it seems healthier. Baseball is fun, relaxing, and relatively affordable to attend, but IMO is not as exciting on TV.

Very true, consider the cost of bringing a family of four to an MLB or NHL game vs. an NFL game (or hell even a big time college football game). I'm not anti-football by any stretch, but going to an NFL game in person isn't worth it unless the tickets are free or heavily discounted. But I will agree nobody will sit down and watch a full baseball game in July unless their team is playing or they are a huge baseball nerd, and that will probably never change.
