The golf handicapping system is one of the best in all of sports.

But I feel like I am more of a 10 handicapper and not a 5. Why aren't the +12, +11 type rounds making much of an impact on the handicap?

10 best rounds of last 20 or a tourney score which is added differently. Check the course ratings. U could shoot 80 and be a 5.

Here's an example of why I think it's a little screwy as well. I shot a +2 at our local par 3/4 course with a rating of 59 and slope of 97 (Par 60). It's easy, obviously. So with the differential it's like a +5. I get that. But when I go to longer courses, I shoot anywhere from +7-+12 (Mostly because I suck at driving the ball), but that makes almost zero impact if I play at the par 3/4 course enough to offset them. I could just not post those scores at the par 3/4 course, I guess.

Read and learn the handicap manual. It's on the USGA site.
Handicap is a potential more than an average score. It's all relative to best 10 of your last 20.
If one of your 10 best is the 20th score, then you need to beat that differential or your handicap will rise. The round you are entering pushes off that 20th round.
Tournament scores are treated differently.

The courses were all rated on the same standard. So while your game fits the par 3/4 course better, it's still rated to account for length and difficulty.
Not entering rounds to keep your handicap higher would be enough to be labeled a Sandbagger in a lot of places. Whether your intentions were good or not.

So what would you suggest?

It's probably about the same travel time as LaTour. I played there once last year. Great shape.

Ur 62 on a 59 is more of a +3 that's what is bringing ur cap down.

Post them and work on your driving so you shoot the same thing at longer courses.
You aren't cheating. Eventually that +2 will drop off. Nothing is forever in the handicap system.

Yeah that'll change your handicap quickly. I'm playing around a 15 right now at Calvert. If I go to the local course that's par 58, I would be a 3 or 4.
