If you still have the stats up, how do those two's fielding chances/year look?

Is there a link to more of these? Or to this one at least?

I don't think it's fair to look at those H2H match ups in a vacuum. Did their careers overlap? Sure. But Fed was out of his prime by the time Nadal and Djoker were dominating (at least 5 years ago and probably more like 7 or 8). I still have Fed in the Top 3-5 all time.

Fielding pct is a poor way of making an argument against defense. Jeters fielding pct is solid but he was a poor defensive shortstop because his range was bad. The newer defensive metrics would tell a lot more here. I have no idea where Ozzie falls but one poster mentioned he was top 5 in defensive war. Is true, that would support that he was an elite defensive shortstop.

Federer was 28 when Nadal got into his Prime and they started battling each other

Nadal is now 28 and no longer competive to win tournaments

Let that sink in when people try to use their head to head records

Do you know what you call a slow hit ground ball to Derek Jeter?

A base hit.

He literally had the best career of any defender in MLB, but you continually call him an "average" defender.

Errors isn't always the best way to measure a defender because if you get to more balls then odds are you might make more errors. Ozzie's sabermetric defensive stats look good.

Also as far as offense goes he wasn't a great hitter but he had 500+ stolen bases

The one that always jumps out is Troy Aikman. His SB stats obviously put him over the top, but his TD/INT ratio is pretty awful. 165/141

No joke, I play Sporcle a lot and try and focus on sports quizzes mostly. Whenever I play any quiz that is QB related (most yards in a season/game/career, or TDs in a season/career/game; etc.) I'm always shocked at either how Aikman is not on the list at all or if he does appear it's always much lower than I'd thought. For example he has the 32nd most career passing yards. Much lower than I'd ever thought growing up watching him play.

So you are throwing out errors now to save Ozzie,

Smart thinking.

Ozzie made 281 errors in his career, while Omar Vizquel has accumulated only 183. And Vizquel has played in close to 200 more games!

Ozzie had a career fielding-percentage of .978, while Vizquel’s is a .985.

Let's just throw out: errors, fielding %, batting averages, home runs, and RBI's.

Now, Ozzie is not over rated.

Jake Delhomme, Kyle Orton, Jason Cambell,

You kind of need to compare Elway to his contemporaries. Guys like Marino, Montana, Moon, maybe Phill Simms, maybe Fouts etc.

Just glancing at the stats some of these guys do look significantly better, but you can definitely tell passing more than 20 tds in a year wasn't a given.

Only twice in 19 seasons did Ozzie field over .985

Why use an outdated statistic like fielding percentage? That's like using completion percentage to say Chad Pennington is the 2nd greatest QB of all time. Ozzie Guillen is the all time leader in defensive Wins Above Replacement. In his worst defensive year, he was 6th in Defensive WAR in the league. How many balls can Ozzie get to that others can't? That said, I still think he's overrated. You shouldn't go to the Hall with offensive numbers that terrible.

In the 3rd season of his career he posted 22 touchdown passes, but also threw 23 interceptions. It was another 7 years before he broke the 20 touchdown mark. He finished his career with a 56.9 completion percentage. Elway won games, has two Super Bowl rings but if he was playing in the current time period, would he have a job? Statistically, Elway wasn't any better than guys like Jake Delhomme, Kyle Orton, Jason Cambell, or the better majority of quarterbacks who are being questioned about their jobs today.

Elways a suprise to me. Already knew Ozzie's numbers weren't great but he was very fan friendly and popular on a popular team. And at the time considered one of the best infielders since Brooks Robinson.
But i always thought Elway belonged in the GOAT conversation. Even in a less pass friendly era, these numbers say otherwise.
