sid can coach, he just doesn't have to. he coached at catholic for many years, he runs the show now. does a lot more work than people think. he lets his coaches coach and he runs the program.

arrakis, I don't think i'm gonna call about it. I love football, but I'm just to busy with college to be able to dedicate that time to something like that.

Since everyone is talking about Sid Edwards so much, I just thought that I would chime in. Now I don't mean this in a disrespectful way at all; I respect Coach Edwards as a coach, but this is just based on observation. During the Central-Denham Springs game this past season in Central, Central smoked us 35-2 and the game was never in doubt. However, during the second half, Sid called a play where the wide receiver was running in motion and as he got behind the quarterback, he did a complete front flip like a gymnist and then continued running like it was an everyday play. This was not a case of the player showboating and doing this on his own. It was a play that had been rehearsed and Coach Edwards called the play.
At that point in the game, Central was winning easily and the game was not in doubt. I don't understand why a coach would call a play such as that and allow a player to do that. There is something that I was taught in sports that is called "class" and that was not a good show of class or sportsmanship. I have no problem saying that Central had a dang good football team last year that was a flat out better team than Denham Springs. However, I will say that you will never see anything like that happen with any team from DSHS. DSHS conducts itself with class in all aspects and just ask anyone who is associated with the program or knows anything about the program.

IMO that play was not meant to be disrespectful to Denham.

for your information all day neil called that play and not sid.he told me that he ran that play at chspc and didnt get a penalty.i told him that is the difference between 1a and ds -cental rivaly.
Posted on 4/1/09 at 2:22 pm to lsu7171
lsu7171 sorry, I didn't know that Coach Neil called it. And yea your right stuff like that might go quietly in 1A but not in a rivalry as heated as the Denham-Central game. But i'm not bashing Central or their coaching staff; i'm just saying that I was taught that in the game you should carry yourself with class and act with some professionalism and in my opinion that was not a very professional thing to do. Yes it was senior night and they were beating up on a huge rival, but I have always been taught to act like you've been there before, you know. This is just my opinion though.

The difference in the offense at Central last year compared to the year before was the kids enjoying playing for the coaches. I don't know which offensive mind could pencil whip a dry erase board better, but watching the games from the last couple of years it wasn't hard to see who the kids played harder for. I don't think anyone called it an offensive explosion, but they gave Destrehan's defense (one of the best in the state)all it could handle. And finally Briscoe ended up among the top passers in 5A. Explosive,no, effective, yes. Why do you hate see someone else succeed?

Yea I don't care what anyone says about Central's offense not being explosive - the bottom line is they get the job done. Briscoe is one of the top QBs in the state and Shedrick is one heck of a reciever for em.

They actually did a story on the flip play the week after, Joxy was out at central and they showed the flip on the news. The way they presented it, they practiced it for a few weeks and were running it at some point. I'm sure they wouldnt want to run a risky play like that in a tight game. what's wrong with letting the kids have some fun?
Posted on 4/1/09 at 11:18 pm to jackbnimble
i understand you should let the kids have fun, but again, I think that you should always conduct your team with professionalism and class, and I just don't think that did any of those things. If your kids can't have fun by blowing at a huge rival in a district game, then they shouldn't be playing the game. You don't need antics like that to have fun.

I think Central will go 6-0, with Zachary, Catholic, Scotlandville and Denham going 2-2 against each other and none finishing better than 4-2 overall. And Live Oak will beat Walker and perhaps sneak a second win while Walker will go 0-6. I think Central's wide receiver Davis will be District MVP.
Central returns almost its entire offense, Catholic struggles on O generally the last couple of years with moving the ball and turnovers, Zachary has to adjust to a completely new scheme (although they have athletes), Denham lost a lot of seniors an WAlker just struggles so much.
Give Live Oak some love though. The Bell kid is a D-I recruit at QB, with career 2,000+ yds and 25 or so TD passes and 2nd team all-district in 07 and 08, throws the javelin in the 170's as a junior, is tough, smart and has a strong accurate arm (ranked in the 60's by Dandy Don). He returns as a senior and has the TE (Viatar - all-district in 08), the WR (Switzer - all-district in 07 and 08), the other athletes Prescott and Mcgrew, along with Hughes at RB (all-disrict in 08 with 700 yds rushing and 10 TD) to throw to. The line is ?, but the O will move the ball. The defense will have many returners, but is ?. Just give some love...they will move the ball and compete. Thanks!

Explain to me how you think Catholic will go lose to either Scotlandville or Denham? Scotlandville's offense was shutdown by Catholic's defense last year and admittedly Catholic's offense was slow.
Denham beat Catholic on a fluke last year. Catholic's kicker had a 20 yard field goal with 30 seconds left and shanked it. Denham did not score on Catholic's defense.
Catholic might lose to Zachary and Central, but I do not see them losing to Denham or Scotlandville
