So that is how garbage like Rome and Stephen A. Smith get on the air...
quote:
"[Rome] was brash and young, and his dream was to be on someplace like ESPN. He wasn't a great TV personality at the time, he was kind of awkward, but he had that great voice, a great mind, and he had the respect early of the trash-talking black and Hispanic audience.
quote:
John looked at the tapes and went gaga; he thought this was going to be Waterloo, and he was going to fight this one because he thought it flew in the face of the journalistic ethics of ESPN. I kept saying, 'It's not about journalism, it's about young people, and getting involved in what they care about.'

Believe it or not. Rome and Steven A. were actually better/more likable on Fox Sports. They've been terrible since being on ESPN imo.

He got booted off of 610 here in Houston, which has been one of his top affiliates.
Yup, "local programming" beat him out of Houston.

Suck or no suck, the ESPN show was just a side gig for him.
According to the author of the ESPN book, his radio show nets him $25-$30 million annually.

I did enjoy his Jungle Glossary and Rat Face HOF
But when you start bringing guy off Blind Date in as an expert, it was time to leave.

I don't understand the hate for this guy.
He seems to be the only radio host who is capable of thinking for himself. Dude has some funny parts in his show, too.
