I am so glad I don't have an addictive personality. It has to be a hard thing to deal with.

Hamilton's addiction was so bad that he can not have another drop of alcohol touch his lips....if he could "control" it as some on here say then why wont they have champagne in the locker rooms?? I mean all they are really doing is just spraying it right?

but that's how the last one started....just a couple drinks
this really sucks...i really like the guy and hope he didn't relapse again

I understand that it can lead to relapse, but as of now it hasn't.
I doubt in a month Hamilton is am alcoholic meth head.

Teammate Ian Kinsler also showed up at the bar for what appeared to be an attempt to persuade Hamilton to return to his home in Westlake.
That can't be good.

Sad to see this. That being said, if I were the Rangers organization I would not let this affect his new deal. Two slips in 4 years and he takes the team to its first two World Series, pay the man.

You people are acting like his career is over. Two slips in four years is nothing bad. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

You should read his book. The first night he ever drank a beer he did coke also and was an addict from then on. So one relasp could be the end, and if he did any drugs and fail the piss test his career is indeed over. It would be his 3rd strike

They dont have champagne in the locker room because they never win. Zooom. Cardinals fist bump.

It makes me really wonder if the Rangers should give him a large contract. This is the second time he's done this in four years. No self control. Pretty troubling.
No self control? The guy is a recovering drug addict for crying out loud. He clinically doesn't have any self control.

I have no problem with him having a beer or 2.
doesn't really work like that unfortunately

Fair enough, but if true would his teammates be coming to the bar to have him stop drinking pepsi? Also why in the hell would a recovering addict torture themselves by drinking AT A BAR.

Pretty uninformed statement here. In his recovery, the guy knew he had to give it all up because of the slippery slope it causes for him. If you pledge to not drink or do drugs anymore...it is an across the board thing. Sure he may have only had "a few brews" but if he can rationalize it being ok to do that this time, whats to say he couldn't rationalize doing a line of coke, or getting hammered on an off night, etc.

I wonder what set him off this time. And it's hard enough to be in recovery, but imagine having to do it with the pressure he has. You'd at least think if he's gonna slip up, he'd not go out to a public place to do it.

His team mate would come to get him to leave a bar, even if he's just having water, because of the negative PR and image stuff. Like this thread, for example.
There are a number of reasons that he could have been in a bar and not drinking. I know a few recovering alcoholics who still go out with and hang out with their friends who happen to drink. However, their stories aren't known to the entire world and their every move isn't scrutinized.

love how people (not necessarily in this thread) are just waiting for this to happen so they can revel in his falling off the wagon. The man is still very young and his issues are not really that far behind him.

Kinsler was called to the bar. I have no doubt Hamilton was drinking.
Hopefully he can get back on the sobriety track.
But I would question the wisdom of giving him a long-term contact based solely on his health, much less these types of episodes.
And the fact that the Rangers have to hire an "accountability" partner to go with him on the road rubs me the wrong way. But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to keep a guy of his talent on the straight and narrow.

Josh Hamilton relapse: Show some compassion
All we know for sure right now is that Hamilton relapsed for one night. He is tested for drugs three times a week. He had an accountability partner, former coach Jerry Narron, to support him in his recovery, and it's probably no coincidence that the relapse comes after Narron left the team to become the Milwaukee Brewers' hitting coach. His accountability partner leaving is just one of a couple of bad things to happen to Hamilton in the last year.

I see what you are saying, Deano.
I guess I just don't know what it's like to be an addict or be around one.
I prayed for the guy last night. I like him. He is a fan favorite. But this is two times in three years. During the third time will he really go off a cliff?
