It just feels like they finally got that West Monroe Monkey off their back, it seems like the last 4-5 years they would look like a team to compete and then lose to West Monroe and they would lose all confidence the rest of the season. I think it could go either way, but I just think the way Ruston has been playing both sides of the ball I'd give them the edge. I don't think either team winning would surprise me though.
I hope you're right. Destrehan losing in the semis or title game is always fun for me to watch.

I was glad to see Ruston practicing at the LSU indoor facility yesterday. What a thrill for these young men.

First game today DII Select, does LCA v STM set a new scoring record? The way they have both been clicking they could score more in the first half than we saw in the two DIV games combined yesterday.

Should be a good game. Ruston is very good on both sides of the ball. I really don't know much about Destrehan except they are a perennial power house. I'm gonna go with the Bearcats. Graduated 1979. Go Cats..

LCA may set a record for penalty yardage
they over two hundred yards in penalties last week

quote:Both are having epic seasons, but Destrehan has been dominate all season. They beat the crap out of some other good teams. They have scored at least 41 points in every game, and never gave up more than 10 points in a game. That only happened once. They gave up seven points to their last two playoff opponents. They gave up six points to two other teams, three to one, and two to another team. They shut out the other three teams they played. I see teams that are usually pretty good, John Ehret, East Ascension, Hahnville, and Terrebonne, on their schedule, but don't know how good those teams were this season. Destrehan Football Schedule
DESTREHAN vs. RUSTON
Ruston is having a historic season. This team has seemed destined for greatness all season. They have started slow in a bunch of their games, and came back to win in all except for the first game against Easton. Their district had the regular good teams on top with West Monroe, Ouachita, ASH and West Ouachita all making the playoffs. I don't think the top of the district was as strong as it usually though. They played a great non-district schedule of Easton, Jesuit, a 12-2 Cabot, AR team , Lafayette Christian, and Neville. They are giving up many more points than Destrehan has, but they still have a pretty good defense. Ruston Football Schedule
This is definitely a year where Ruston has a great chance to win 5A, or DI non-select, whatever we're calling it, but I don't know if they can beat this Destrehan team. I'd have a better idea, if I knew the strength of 5A district 7. Looking at their records, I think that district was a lot like Ruston's 5A Distric 2, where the top teams aren't as good as they usually are.
I'm picking Ruston in what feels like an upset. I have to pick the Bearcats. I didn't go there, but I live in Ruston.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Picking Union vs. Many too. I did play there, and always pull for my Fighting Farmers. Coach Spatafora really developed them into a great 3A program. Their district is one of the toughest in the state.
In the 70's we didn't even have free weights. Just a universal circuit. Spat has some really strong players on his teams. He's got one of the best weight rooms in NNELA. That's been the biggest difference in his teams vs. the ones before them at Union Parish/Farmerville.

Those kids don't care about crowd numbers. They earned an opportunity to play in an iconic arena. Walking on the same turf as NFL HoF'ers
My old high school geometry teacher played baseball in the minors but WWII cut that short. He mentioned playing in Fenway when he was in high school for a championship. He never mentioned crowds or anything, only how manicured the field was and an honor to play there and this was the 1930s.
As someone who has played competitive sports one way or another, I would expect these kids not caring about the crowd but the fact they get to play where some of the greats did at one time. It's a once in a lifetime thing for a lot of those kids. I'm sure in their mind the stadium is at capacity.

quote:Dont follow HS ball , but just found out this week Broderick Fobbs( Grambling ex coach) is Ruston's HC. You got damn steal. I'd trade Hue Jackson to Ruston for Fobbs no questions asked.
I am a 1990 Ruston graduate but live in Monroe now. Ruston hasn't been good since I was in high school.
Pulling for Ruston tonight.

Parochial schools are there to offer the education and the discipline. The 1A, 2A and 3A "Christian" schools are there to win ballgames.
Nah...both the parochial schools and the Christian schools are there because the parents don't want their kids going to school with the public school kids. Sometimes they get a better education at the private schools and sometimes they don't. It depends on the school.
