So if a Jewish player gets called a bad name, they have the right to run up into the stands and assault the fans?

If I call every player's mother a 2 cent whore with strong mouth muscles, those are simply "fighting words" and justifies the whole team to use physical violence?

Some of y'all are simply trolling or need to get a grip?

Why, exactly, are you standing up for a guy who is a prime example of what's wrong in sports today?

we don't have evidence of any wrongdoing from the fan, and convicting him at this point is premature.

Smart should be praised for putting that a-hole in his place.

I agree, from our perspective, having no dog in this fight.

But the school or conference have to come down pretty hard on Smart, regardless of what was said.

That being said, yea, I'm sure we'll find out exactly what the fan said and it more than likely deserved a hell of a lot more than what Smart did.

I think it would be different if Smart ran into the stands to attack the guy.

So the fan left his seat and came at Smart? Or Smart walked up to the fan, got in his face, and violently pushed him?

that's the thing. people keep saying the fan got in the player's face, but it is quite the opposite.

They're going to have to because of PR and all that.

But fans think that buying a ticket to an event gives them the right to say and do whatever the frick they want to, and that's wrong. Fans need to know their place and stay there.

I mean was in the stands as a result of the play, he didn't go into the stands with the intention of attacking the guy. If he did, I think it would be more unacceptable

They should, regardless of PR. IF you're the coach or AD at a school, you can't condone what Smart did, that's illogical to think otherwise.

You can't have your players putting their hands on fans, no matter what the situation is(generally speaking of course)

But again, from my perspective, I absolutely support what Smart did.

I agree with that, too. You can't condone beating up customers, even when they deserve it.

fans yelling at players has been the norm since the beginning of time. you're telling me it's wrong now? why does Orr deserve punishment when yelling at opponents is the norm?

Smart was wrong to shove him. But he is still a college kid.

Smart should get suspended a few games because you cannot do that.

The fan should get banned for a few games or the season.

Depending on what he said
