sherman didn't act like a thug really, and the label was somewhat wrong (although shite-talking and being flashy/outspoken IS part of the "thug" culture, so it wasn't 100% incorrect)
and "thug" has a racial component because it is a term that describes a certain part of urban-black culture
just like "white trash" or "redneck" is a term that describes a certain part of rural (mostly white, but not always) culture

Yes. It's what they are called. I don't know of anyone who would want to be called white trash. There are tons of black people who embrace the term. Hell there are white people who embrace it too. It's more of a cultural thing than a straight insult. I would compare calling someone a thug to calling someone a redneck idiot or honky.

He'll be suspended...as he should be. I'm sure he's fine with it though. An old or young white guy says some racist shite to me, he's getting his teeth knocked out. I can deal with the consequences, but there ain't no way a racist white guy is gonna disrespect me in any form or fashion. He'll know i'm not the one to play with.

Oh without a doubt. I think it comes from a view people have built up from seeing fights between different races growing up and on videos on TV and the internet. It isn't right, but I think that's why people look down on two black guys fighting on a basketball court and cheer for a hockey or baseball fight.
