Doesn't mean much in terms of greatest.

Elway took his team to three literally single handedly. He had a mediocre back in Sammy Winder and three good WR's. He had no real defense. He took those teams as far as one man could. He was a great qb and he didn't have the tools to punch it through. I'd take him ove Brees and Favre any day of the week.

Marino was a great QB and deserves to be there

The Saint that screwed the worst by being left off the all-time team is Morten Andersen

Yup. Marino would've killed it in these offenses with his quick release. If he had a CEH or Marshall Faulk type rb to play with, the results would have been devastating.

What he did to the 85 Bears defense was a crime.

Dang thats tough however for all the clutchness Marino displayed, he came up small in some REALLY BIG MOMENTS and therefore no rings, it's not a big margin by which Brees separates himself from Marino by any means but at least once he came up big when it counted and won himself a ring, the object of a pro football team is winning the Super Bowl last I checked and that defines quarterbacks' legacies fair or unfair

No defense or running game.

One man show can only go so far. That’s why we are all worried about GOAT at Cincinnati

Didn't matter when he played Seattle and Pittsburgh in the playoffs in 84, straight shredded them and they knew what he was gonna do the entire time, should've beaten the Pats the next season at the Orange Bowl would've been a better matchup with the Bears since they already defeated the Bears 46 defense handily earlier that season but Marino and the team as well came up really small, like that defeat was embarrassing. To put that defeat in its proper perspective: New England HAD NEVER defeated Miami in the Orange Bowl since 1966 until that game, that loss sent Marino and the team into a tailspin they wouldn't recover from until 1990, let's not mince words Miami and their quarterback choked spectacularly and would choke again in 1992 WHEN THEY HOSTED THE BILLS IN THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

This is laughable. Are you for real dude? Brees has a Super Bowl ring for WINNING and Marino has a memory of a bad loss. Brees has more yards and more wins. WTF are you smoking boi?

New England, buffalo, Minnesota, and Denver all had something in common during their super bowl loss years. Teams came to play them up in their digs in January. That weather was a huge bitch.

Then the Super Bowl would roll around and they didn't have that weather advantage anymore and got creamed.

Shows you never watched Marino play before his 10 knee surgeries and neck injury slowed him down.

Before QB's were treated like priceless artifacts and receivers were a protected species, he was the best pure passer in the game. He made throws that defied physics.

Drew Brees is a great QB. Dan Marino is a legend. Stats, Super Bowls, whatever won't change that because Marino played in a different era and changed the way the game was played. Nick Saban even said that pattern match coverage came about because traditional zone wasn't worth a s**t against Marino. How many QB's have singlehandedly lead to an evolution of defensive football?

Rather the Marks brothers had Marino.

Let's not put the cart before the horse.

False, Brees historically has put up great numbers in playoff games. But do not left facts get in the way of your narrative

This is such a BS take. He begged for a running game and defense his entire career. By the time they even tried to have one he was 16 years in.

He was also 10 knee surgeries and a neck injury deep in his career. The neck injury alone took a lot off his arm strength.

He didn't play in the two hand touch era.

OK, now we know you never watched football before the year 2000

Troy Aikman was one of the best deep ball passers in the games history. He didn't make a living checking it down to running backs and throwing snag routes to tight ends.

Elway and Farve made some of the best throws ever recorded on film.

Young is actually a very good comparison to Brees. Very similar styles aside from Youngs running ability.

Another stupid take.

Mark Duper
Mark Clayton
Tony Nathan
Keith Byars
Jim Jenson
Irving Fryar
Ferrell Edmunds
Tony Martin
Keith Jackson
OJ McDuffie
Bernie Parmalee
Mark Ingram, Sr.

Marino was having to compete with Jim Kelly's Buffalo Bills with THAT cast of characters.

The Marks brothers were gone by 92.

The Dolphins WERE Dan Marino.

Yeah, but dont bring that up. None of the guys arguing against Marino have ever heard of the 85 Bears, Buddy Ryan, or the 46 Defense.

or saw both Brees and Marino play in their primes.

So...... since Butkus played on NFL championship teams, he shouldn't be considered for best linebacker either. Same logic.
