110 for Harmon, 27 for Matty.
But I was trying deliberately to take home runs and RBIs out of the equation, just focusing on hitting the ball hard.
I know people love small ball and I miss bunting for hits too, but the percentages are against it even if it's entertaining.
But I do think today's batters ought to try to put the bat on the ball with two strikes instead of swinging from the heels every damn time.

People used to fuss at Ted Williams ... only the greatest hitter ever born of a woman ... for walking so much, said he ought to get the bat off his shoulder and swing at whatever pitches he saw on the off chance that he might connect and get a hit.
How many world series did ole splinter win?
Maybe they were right…..

He's still the greatest hitter ever born of a woman.
And I didn't say he was perfect or that he wasn't stubborn (witness the shift in 1946).

But they are both better. Much better.

So, you think a single is as good as a double? Or a double is as good as a HR?

What’s better: A guy that has 100 singles and 100 walks or a guy that has 120 singles and 35 walks?

How many rbis?

For the record, I am not one of the new stat guys who’s written off RBIs.

0. Nobody was ever on base when this guy batted. Which is better?

How many championships did they each win in the last 100 years? (surely more than the cubs because that would be embarrassing if not)

I disagree with the people who dismiss RBIs because they’re supposed to be so dependent on teammates getting on base. There are people who, when folks DO get on base, have the knack (and it’s sometimes quantifiable even though analytics absolutists will claim it’s blind chance) of driving them in when others don’t.
An example out of the air: You could bring Fred Stanley over from the 1976 Yankees to the 1976 Reds and put him at shortstop with Pete Rose, Ken Griffey and Joe Morgan batting ahead of him. He ain’t getting anywhere close to the 121 RBI’s George Foster had batting cleanup.

RBIs and you have the holy trinity

BA doesn't mean jack shite, never has, never will. People who list that stat first in all of their arguments(Moscona) are morons and don't know ball. The only stats that matter for hitters are OBP and Slugging aka OPS
Posted on 7/6/24 at 8:46 pm to InkStainedWretch
You don’t see any correlation between any of these stats?

Goes to show that what Judge is doing is that much more impressive. Judge might slug 1.000 if he got to face the pitchers and defense that Bonds faced.

0 championships between them. Which one is better?

All the biomechanics stuff has benefitted the pitching side of development considerably more than the hitting side. Pitching staffs get nastier every year even with all the injuries
