Parity means exciting games that fans watch into the fourth quarter as opposed to blowouts that they tune out in the 3rd… and also a lot of teams that go late into the season with a chance to make a playoff run as opposed to a few clinching early and others having no playoff chance after week 8
What you are saying is precisely the line of thinking that these leagues try to sell. Some, like yourself, buy into it. But most people aren't "excited" by two .500 teams squaring off for a playoff spot. The die hard fans will watch, but they are going to watch, no matter what. It's the casual fan who looks at it, and realizes that these aren't quality teams, and he'll pick something else to watch. People know a watered down product when they see it.
As I said before, what really keeps modern professional sports relevant is gambling, and particularly fantasy sports. I see people around me who are Saints fans, walking around with a jersey of a player on another team, because he's their fantasy team's best player. People are almost more concerned with their fantasy team than their actual team, these days.
By the way, parity does not mean no blowouts. If anything, there are more blowouts. Because the thing about having a league full of average teams, is that while anyone can beat anyone, they can also lose by 30 points to anyone. How did the Packers lose by 35 points to a crappy Saints team, for instance? And the excitement of pulling off a big upset doesn't exist anymore, because there are multiple upsets every single week, and it hardly generates more than a yawn.
