I read that they were eyeing Broxton and Chris Perez as their primary targets for bullpen help after the Padres said Huston Street wasn't leaving. Hadn't heard any rumors about K-Rod.
It's the Giants biggest need for sure with Wilson out for the year and Casilla having blown like 5 of his last 8 save opps. Romo is solid and the two lefties Lopez and Affeldt do their thing, but you need a dominant closer to get into and succeed in the post season. There's not much else in there to be excited about.. Hensely, Penny, Kontos.. all pretty meh.

I wish they would trade Broxton. My buddy could get a shot in the closers roll.

Is James Shields worth giving up any kind of top prospect for?
He is awful.
30 years old with a career 4.00 ERA, currentl 8-7 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Outside of what looks like fluke last year, his previous 2 seasons before that boasted a 5.18 ERA and a 4.14 ERA.

I think if you got shields out of the AL East he would do pretty good. Look at AJ Burnette

Well sure, but if he sucks against the best teams in baseball, what's that say come playoff time?

Is this a knock or...? He pitches in the toughest division in baseball. He has pitched 1358 career innings and has K'd 1381.

What does his previous two seasons have to do with anything? Why dont you bring up the 3seasons before that when he had a 4.14, 3.56, and 3.85 ERA?
Greinke's career ERA is almost 4, guess he sucks too

No, he actually pitches good and doesn't have a 4 and a half ERA right now.
In Grienke's last 6 seasons, he's posted an under 4 ERA 5 of those 6 years. He's proven.
Shields has posted an under 4 ERA 3 of the last 6 years, and an over 4 ERA 2 of the last 3 years, about to be 3 of the last 4 unless he has a miracle August and September.
I hope the Dodgers or Braves get him.

So that's an excuse to get shelled by good teams? Yeah, I want that guy in the Playoffs.

You sir, are an idiot.
Then go give up a top prospect for a 4.52 ERA guy that obviously sucks against good competition. That will clearly work out well in the playoffs.
Stats are stats. You sir, are a bigger idiot.

It's also all relative. Considering the options that some teams have (ANGELS), then a 4.52 ERA guy would be an improvement.

Brewers beat guy thinks Richards and Segura from Angels for Greinke.

Pirates determined to deal Kevin Correia. Anybody want him?
If the Pirates get a warm body for him, I'd be thrilled.

@jcrasnick: A source says #pirates are motivated to move Correia even though he's won six straight decisions. He's 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA.

@jcrasnick: The #Pirates are letting teams know Kevin Correia is available. He appears to be the odd-man out after the Wandy trade.

@jcrasnick: Correia is owed only $1 million the rest of this season. Potential low-cost option for teams who aren't in Greinke-Johnson mix.

Hmmm, well I guess that's better than giving up Bourjos. Just hope we can get another year or 2 in a contract extension from him. Don't really want a rental.
SoCal should be good for his anxiety.

Posturing??
Angels' chances of acquiring top pitcher appear to be dwindling

Zack Greinke is available, and James Shields remains a target, but the Angels’ chances of acquiring a front-of-the-rotation starter before Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline “are below 50% right now,” according to a source who is familiar with the team’s thinking but not authorized to speak publicly on such matters
