Baseball is the one sport i never played past little league, so i won't pretend to know the subtle muscle mechanics.

That's a good way to put it.

My rankings of major team sports in terms of their athleticism:

1. Basketball: Good mix of physicality and speed required to play pro basketball.

2. Association Football (soccer): The running endurance required for a 90 minute match is bar none the most of any sport. People question the physicality of football, but unless you've played it you cannot recognize the strength required to stay balanced while a defender hacks at your for the ball.

3. Rugby/Ice Hockey: Essentially American football with no pads and less rules. Ice Hockey fits in here with the physical sport but normally the best athletes don't play it role.

4. American Football: Would be higher, but the amount of protection coupled with the fact that most players only play half of the time (offense defense). Also many position lack complex required skills.

5. Baseball: It's an extremely difficult skill sport but the strength and speed departments are lacking. The most physically demanding position (startingpitcher) only has to play once a week.)

6. Cricket: It's basically a lamer version of baseball.

Those male gymnasts are probably the best athletes.

False. Boxing and Hockey are harder.

WHAT!?!? You are saying they are even, are you kidding?

Baseball is the HARDEST sport to play!

no, some guys just have it when it comes to being able to throw 95 mph or being able to hit... but it is certainly not the hardest sport to be the best at

Football is more complicated and basketball is more athletic by far

My argument was for Basketball..no doubt in my mind the most athletic sport. He tried to say it was football.
On a side note I think Baseball is the most skilled sport.

Obviously you've never tried to hit a baseball 500 feet or throw it 100 MPH. I love how baseball players are deemed "weak" by people that know nothing about the sport just because they don't squat 495 and bench 405, although overall the muscles required to play baseball at a high level are a lot harder to develop than the ones that basketball and football players have naturally from being 6'5 230 lbs.

The amount of body control that it takes for a shortstop to field a ball traveling 110 mph, stay smooth and loose, use good footwork, and make an accurate throw to 1st in roughly 3-4 seconds is a LOT harder than anything a basketball player has to do mechanically, and that's one of the simplest things that can take place in a baseball game.

The debate can go on, but the fact is that all sports are incredibly difficult to play at their highest level and arguements can be made for what kind of athleticism is the most "significant". Comparing Federer to Woods to Jeter to Jordan to Manning is irrelevant because they're all playing at such a high level that most people can't understand the subtleties of their game anyway, and even if they can understand it, they're still all completely maxed out physically and using all of the athleticism in them for their individual sport, just in different ways.

ummm, no

body control mid air with an alley oop and avoiding the block comes to mind... happens a helluva lot faster than 3-4 seconds

Any sport where you stand idly (while in the game no less) or sit waiting for most of the game (baseball) cannot be considered on par athletically with basketball, soccer, football, hockey etc.

I played baseball and understand the tremendous skill involved, but am reticent to call it extremely physically demanding. You might get on the base paths once and have to run once or chase down a fly ball maybe four times a game. It's quite difficult to power a ball over 375 feet, but it's not employed as often as other more physically demanding aspects of other sports.

Boxing/MMA/kickboxing and its not even close. A guy like Andre Ward, Manny Pacquiao, or Alistair Overeem. At any size you take these guys and they are superior athletes IMO.

Take Floyd Mayweather vs Lionel Messi and Mayweather kills him in just about any kind of athletic competition. Take Chad Dawson vs Darrell Revis same thing. Take Wladimir Klitschko vs Lebron, Wlad wins in most things.

Did you really just say football is more complicated then Baseball? Baseball is the hardest sport to play Lebron or the top guy in any other sport could literally take 1000 fastballs and wouldn't get not one pitch into the outfield. Baseball takes the most skill

Are you even trying to stay on topic?

Jeebus...

And when was the last time a baseball player was traded to a new team and had to learn a couple phone book sized playbooks before they could contribute?

frick yes football is more complicated
