That doesn't make it complicated.

Athletic ability - Football. If there is anybody on the field that isn't ridiculous athletic for their size (besides QB), they would get completely exposed.
Skills - Baseball. I don't think there is any debate in that.
Basketball, there are point guards that are amazing, yet not amazing athletes. Steve Nash, John Stockton for example. Also, if you are over 7 feet and have decent athletic ability, you have a shot to be in the NBA.

My original post didn't address the actual question at hand...which SPORT is the most athletic. Not who has the best athletes. I'll go with basketball as the most athletic sport. And I like the breakdown of skill as well, because I'll stick with baseball on that.
Nash is a great ahtlete. That's crazy.
Also, there is a lot more "standing around" in soccer than people give it credit for. People act like it's nonstop running for 90 minutes, and that's just complete bullshite.

The only reason Football players can be that big is cause football takes almost no stamina compared to most other sports

Take Floyd Mayweather vs Lionel Messi and Mayweather kills him in just about any kind of athletic competition. Take Chad Dawson vs Darrell Revis same thing. Take Wladimir Klitschko vs Lebron, Wlad wins in most things.

If you play defense you may stand around a little bit, if you're a midfielder.. then frick standing around.

He's kind of right, you get a break every 5 seconds in football and constant substitutions for the players. You need much more stamina in basketball, hockey (bc you're on skates), and soccer

You still see a lot of the players cramping and needing oxygen.....and they are SUPER good athletes. It cant be that easy. BTW....where is Romnio38?

OK this is just fricking stupid
Catching a baseball with a glove is different than catching a football whilst wearing uncomfortable pads and covered in sweat with the threat of getting your head taken off a split second after you catch it. You also do a lot more running during the game so you're trying to do a lot of this while you're physically exhausted.
I would say that hitting major league pitches and being able to pitch at a major league level is 90% of what makes baseball difficult to play. You certainly don't need to have more raw athletic ability.

Are you kidding? most plays are 7 seconds tops then 30 second rest do that 7-10x and then sit on a bench for 20 minutes. Football takes almost NO stamina compared to most sports. That is a FACT.
And the fact that football players cramp shows that they aren't the best athletes. Boxers and MMArtist move WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy more with way less rest and you never ever seem them cramping in the middle of a fight.

if you think about it most baseball players can play football and basketball most football players and basketball players cant play baseball its just a harder game to pick up nothing against other sports but baseball is the harder sport to learn u cant just come in and be good u have to have years of experience
edit: saying that baseball doesn't have the most athletic players just the harder game to learn. i would go with football guys work out and bust arse for the year just to knock each others heads off week in and week out. 6 foot 7 inch 300+ lineman blocking guys are huge

not at the professional level
most people can play intramural baseball too... I don't see this as a meaningful point

There is a difference between skill and athletic ability. Baseball requires a lot of skill and little athletic ability. When guys like CC Sabathia and Prince Fielder can be all stars in a sport, it does not require a lot of athletic ability.
Don't mistake being "in shape" with athletic ability either. The ripped-up dude at your local gym is likely not a great athlete. Make no mistake, CC Sabathia and Prince Fielder are world class athletes. The fact that they can play at such a high level while being overweight actually shows just how athletic they really are.
Basketball players are probably the most athletic if you use Slow's definition of size+speed+jumping+strength. And I think Lebron James is probably the best athlete in the world if not the best athlete of all time. But baseball players are probably the best at all sports. For example, I don't know anybody who played baseball at a high level(save for maybe a few freak pitchers) who wasn't also good at basketball, football, golf, etc...I bet any professional baseball player would almost definitely be good at tennis, too.
If there was a decathalon of playing 10 different sports, baseball players would likely win. They tend to be the best at "playing games." But obviously it depends on your definition of "athlete." However, anybody who dismisses baseball players as not being world-class athletes: A) never played past Little League, and B) are too stupid to even bother debating.
