Devs having a brutal December. No way would anyone had thought the sabers would have more points than them going into the new year.

Potentially a good break for the Avalanche with Blackwood (not surprising despite how good he's been) and Wedgewood (surprising) not making Team Canada. A good rest and no risk injury outside of ice time/life for the best goalie tandem in hockey.

Toews said that his availability will be dependent on the birth/health of his fourth child and wife after delivery.

Kinda expecting an insanely motivated Avalanche team tonight against Doug Armstrong's Blues and then that Lightning game against Cooper. Possibly the little shot in the arm needed at the end of that road trip.

It’s been an awful month for the Devils. Hoping they have a better January.

Some observations to end the year:

The East is still insanely clustered - IMO playoff locks are Tampa, Carolina, Washington, and likely Florida
Detroit, NYI, and Montreal looking good but still fragile
I don't trust Philly or Rangers
Devils are in trouble - they were amazing at the beginning of the year, bad with Hughes out (they always are), but haven't bounced back since his return
Leafs, Penguins, and Blue Jackets are done, Sens in trouble too
Sabres - nice streak but hopefully they can stick around

Central top 3 are locked up - still amazed at Winnipeg's fall and Utah's inability to consistently put things together
Nashville and STL even still hanging around despite being bad
Pacific will be interesting but Oilers look the best of the bunch, Vegas OT merchants and Ducks should still make the playoffs but have fallen hard
Kings the definition of meh

West WC will be at least one Pacific team and a very meh second team

Who gets hurt at the Olympics and in the crazy schedule that follows will have a big impact on the playoff field and champion

Here’s one for ya- less than five minutes into the first period the Avs are up 4-0 and the Blues don’t have a shot on goal. Lol.

Don't forget we had an absolute BS goal called back from the refs

It was 5-0 with no shots for STL in 5 minutes.

That was the biggest beatdown I've seen in a while

Avs took it personally that Binnington was named to Canada and not the lumberyard

Glad I called that and laid a good bit of money on it to happen.

30-2-7

EDIT: and more importantly starting to finally get some distance from Dallas. 10 point lead with a game in hand

Nordiques were down 3-1 when 3rd period started - won 5-3.

30-2-7. Won 9 in a row.

10 points better than any other team and with two games in hand .

Points in 37 of 39 games.
Lost Dec 4 and on Dec 9
86 % of points.

Score more than any other team/ Give up less goals than any other team by a mile.

Power play still not consistently good, was very good tonight . God help the league if they figure that out.

Saucy.

Crosby is just incredible. Beautiful OT winner. I hope he plays another year or two, has a real shot at #2 all time points.

Oh no. Landeskog had to be helped off the ice- slid into a crossbar lower rib/ kidney area. Pretty brutal.

Definitely didn't look good at all, but sounds like the worst outcomes were avoided with him not being ruled out for the Olympics at this point.
He and Toews are clearly missed right now, but such is hockey and we've been crazy lucky with injuries this year.

Would be awesome to get 2 points out of this one and come back 4/6 on the road trip. This one could have some fireworks this final 20 (and maybe +5)

It'll be nice to get back to our barn for a couple of weeks and hopefully get healthy. We're definitely missing Blacky (oopsies, put Wedgie first), Taser and Cap.

Also, thank you Dallas for deciding to give us some space in the standings as we go home for seven games battered and bruised from this trip.

2 games without Landy 2 losses. I was hoping we'd get four points, Toughest stretch of the season. Oh well, down to earth.

Really need Blacky back. Obviously, Wedgewood (FORGIVE ME, I HAVEN'T SLEPT IN TWO DAYS) has been lights out all season, but it's clear we don't trust Miner to spell him even on a road stretch like this.

The entire west is kind of a mess right now
I had figured this 3 game east road trip with 22hrs on B2B and 3 in 4 days against 3 really good teams would be tough - even before the injuries.

Just want the Avs to get healthy, which will take some time.
Need to get back on winning track at home v Columbus and Ottawa, then rest can take care of itself
