Or the Flyers. Either way, I'm good. It's still against Pennsyltuckey.

I think Semin has played like doggy poo, but other than that... it's been Halak playing out of his mind. It's not anyone's fault, it's just one guy going crazy.
The Caps have dominated the flow of play in the series and are doing everything you want your team to do... they just can't solve Halak right now. This isn't the Caps playing poorly, it's not even the Habs playing well, it's just a hot goalie stealing a series.
And Ovechkin has been one of the most prolific scorers in this playoffs. He certainly ain't to blame. I would point a finger at Semin and Green, who are not scoring at all. Semin especially has been turning it over nonstop. But how do you get mad at the Caps if they are dramatically outplaying the opposition? It's just a crazy goalie.

Not if the Habs win Wednesday. Then it would be Habs at Pens and Flyers at Bruins.

Halak was awesome tonight and has had two other good games in the series. But he also had two awful showings and got pulled as a result. For arguments sake though, let's just assume you can explain this whole series away by an appeal to some kind of extraordinary goaltending. It still leaves all the other 7 game series they've been in with Boudreaux/Ovechkin. Something is not translating from the regular season to post season for them and I think it's clearly leadership. I'm just not sure who the Caps fans think is most responsible for that and would be interested to hear.
As far as scoring, you can't simply look at shots. In the playoffs (especially), you have to get traffic in front of the net and crash the hell out of the net. That takes a commitment to consistent, physical play. While some of the Caps seem to be fine with that, it's blatantly obvious that others are not. The drop off in production from guys like Green and Semin is inexcusable IMO. But someone has to light a fire under their asses and usually that comes from the captain or coach or some other "leader."

I've watched the games. Outside of Game 1, in which they clearly just sleepwalked through the whole game, the Caps have absolutley dominated possession. and they have created traffic and crashed the net. Especially Knuble.
People want to chalk it up to leadership or whatever, but really, the difference in this series is that the Habs have had a horseshoe lodged up their collective arse. They are winning this series due to blind luck.
Well, and Semin playing like garbage.
The Habs have one productive line, no depth, and have spent the entire series scrambling in their own end. Yet they are going to Game 7. They have quite literally done everything you do not want to do and have been rewarded for it. They have not just been outplayed, they have been dramatically outplayed (except Game 1), but they keep getting results.
They have all the earmarks of a team that gets lucky in one series and then gets swept in the next round. They really aren't even playing well (except Cammaleiri, Plekanac, and, though on a different line, Lapierre).
And I really want non-cynical play to be rewarded. The world will be a better place if more offensive, open style teams are successful (this goes for the Hawks as well). Plodding, no offense teams like the Devils and Sabres have already been eliminated, thankfully. It's better hockey.

0 for 5 on the PP for Chicago in the 2nd. They've still got the lead, but Nashville has to feel like they've got a good shot after that period.

Hey Baloo the last time this happened for Montreal was in 1993 when they won a Stanley Cup...they were taken to overtime like 6 or 7 times and beat the Kings...people said the same shite about Roy...

Well, the '93 Habs had a few more assets. They also were a much better team, earning over 100 points in the regular season.
Damphousse, Muller, Bellows, and LeBeau all were 30-goal scorers. Captain Kirk was also a machine out there beyond just scoring. They also had quality depth like Keane, Savard, Dionne, Leclair, and Carbonneau.
And the blueline was pretty stacked with Desjardins, Schneider, Daigneault, and Briesbois.
The 1993 Habs were really, really good. And while Roy was pretty awesome, he didn't single handedly carry them. He allowed 3 goals in every game of the Sabres series. And he didn't have a single shutout. These are in no way, shape, or form the 1993 Habs. The 1993 Habs were good.

That was absolutely pathetic, Preds played with no sense of urgency, gave the puck away so many times. Almost like they didn't give a shite.

The Preds were awful on the PP the whole series. That was ultimately the difference in the series; especially when you consider how close some of the losses were. That game 5 loss was devastating given the circumstances. They still gave a good showing IMO. I know that's not what fans want to hear, but given the opponent (and some injuries), they put up a good fight.

Come on now. That's not any fun. You've got to at least make a prediction. I'm actually interested to hear what everyone thinks will happen with both Game 7's. I think the Caps are going to win the next one. They've invested too much into this season to lose everything in the first series and they'd never live that down. Not that losing in the 2nd round would be much better, but a first round exit for a team that was so dominant all season would be disastrous.
I'm having trouble deciding who to go with in Det/Phx. On one hand, I picked Detroit to go all the way to the Finals again and cited experience as the major reason why. And a game 7 is exactly where you'd expect that experience to pay off. On the other hand, that experience should have also taught them the importance of closing out at home in game 6 and they were dominated. I knew Phoenix was no joke and it was clear to me from game 1 that they'd be a tough out. They've got the momentum, home ice, and a superior goaltender. However, I am going with Detroit to squeak one out. And for the record, I'd love to see Phoenix win. I respect the hell out of Detroit, but simply can't stand them (should be easy to understand why considering my loyalties).
