God, that would be AWESOME!! We've been hurting since the Scouts left. They brought a CHL team into Independence this year (the Missouri Mavericks) and they did very well.
And, great comeback by the Bruins. I like Ryan Miller, but he can go play for Team USA in the IIHF World Championships in Germany!

Are you on Drugs? If so which ones? Buffalo has upwards of 6000 season ticket holders that live in Hamilton Kitchener Waterloo Niagra Falls area...Why do you think it's so easy for 6000 Toronto Maple Leaf fans to get tickets to Sabres Leaf games? Montreal has sold out Bell centre/Forum forever and the season ticket wait for Leafs is like 10 years...I hate Montreal but even I admit they live and die 365 days a year by the Habs, same with Toronto. Calgary and Edmonton are the same, even Ottawa has loyal and passionate fans...face up to the fact that Hockey in America will always be a lower tier sport every single Hockey game at the Air Canada centre is sold out....for a Toronto/Atlanta game people will pay $200 for a shitty seat in nosebleeds...

Huge win for Boston. The Sabres were 31-0-0 in games they lead after 2 periods. Still no 2-0 series.

First, I said that I think Toronto and Montreal's are the best, but are overrated. I stand by that. I think all the Canadian fanbases are good, as well. Once again, based on what you hear about them, though, and what I've seen (mostly on TV, which I admit, is a little tough to get a full picture, trying to judge stuff like noise/passion that way), they're overrated. Good, great even, but overrated, too. JMO.

Exactly how do you come to the conclusion they are overrated? Read the Toronto sun or Star on line in July, still two pages about hockey related stuff...In my estimation and totally with respect because I've followed your posts re hockey since I've been on this board you are wrong, wrong like the deck hand on the Titanic that said "oh dont worry we'll miss that iceberg", wrong like Neville Chamberlain saying "Peace in our time..." wrong. wrong. wrong.
Toronto hasnt won a Stanley Cup since 1967 and it doesnt change a god damned thing, we live a little when they win and die a little when they lose....we parade when we win a playoff game...

The Columbus Dispatch has a ton of hockey stuff year-round, too. During season, there's a front-page Jackets article and in the middle pages, a page each for the Jackets and general NHL coverage. Off-season, there's usually at least one Jackets article each day in May (along with SC playoffs coverage)August/Sept and a ton of coverage during June and July for the Draft/FA. I'm mainly just saying this to point out I think most newspapers that have an NHL team devote a lot of coverage to them.
I'm not trying at all to say Toronto's fanbase is not great. I just think it's overrated. For example, other than Detroit and Pittsburgh (backyard) the team that brings the most fans to Nationwide for a game is by far Buffalo. They make the most noise, as well. Toronto brings a lot, too, but not as much as them. The "2nd tier of fans" include Toronto and Montreal, but also Philly, Minny, the Rangers, and Boston, and then the third tier has teams like Chicago, Dallas, Washington, and the rest of the Canadian teams. I was also at the NHL draft here in 07, and saw a good amount of Toronto fans, but not some extraordinary number. Now, this takes in factors like distance, so it's not completely fair, but I feel it kind of gives a somewhat brief idea.
And on TV, from what I've seen on Jackets road games, the loudest Canadian arena has been Vancouver. I realize, though, I can't use this to fully judge, since the mics are in different places in different arenas, and plus the Jackets aren't a visiting team that are going to bring out the best in opposing fans. But they just didn't seem as crazy as one might expect.
Once again, I think that the Canadian teams have great fanbases, and have a ton of passion. I know that Ontario and Quebec are mad for their teams. Hence why I said I think they still are probably the top two fanbases. I just don't think the gap is as big as many act, or that they're as amazing as people act. That's it.

Incomparable. I follow Canadian hockey, been to hundreds if not thousands of games over the course of my life...I've seen Leaf games in Florida and Atlanta where I swear on my life there are an equal number of Leaf fans in the building...I have been to Montreal/Toronto games in Montreal and Toronto where Leaf or Montreal fans have paid 3-4-5 times over face value to support their teams in the "other rink" I've talked to Newfoundlanders in Montreal that have driven for 2 days to see the Leafs in Montreal; there are on any given day 1-2 Winnipeg Jets fans I encounter wearing t-shirts supporting a defunct hockey team. in the summer time I see 1 or 2 Quebec Nordiques baseball caps a week...no my friend you are misguided if you think the fanbases of CDN hockey teams are overrated....the globe and mail today ran an article about a lifelong fan of the penguins down for 1 last pilgrimge to the igloo from Quebec....its not the same.

I don't want a huge debate over this. I completely respect your opinion and realize just how much Canadians care about hockey. I guess my experiences have just been a bit of a letdown, but me being a Jackets fan probably affected that, too.
As for the playoffs, all 7 series' that have played two games are 1-1. Nashville and Chicago have game two tomorrow, and there's a good chance that will be 1-1 after tomorrow's game, too. Amazing.

This is what needs to be discussed. It's blasphemy not to be talking about just how damn good these playoffs have been so far. I think Chicago will win tomorrow and make it a perfect 8 for 8 for 1-1 series' starts. The OT games are already piling up and we're not even a week into the playoffs. The Caps-Canadiens series is the most compelling so far IMO. The Caps have already made a change in net and narrowly missed an 0-2 nightmare. Most were expecting a dominating series performance from the Caps and instead, it's turned into an absolute scrap. Both #1 seeds needed OT to simply get a split in their home stand, but I don't think SJ's struggles have surprised anyone given their recent past. It should be another good day of hockey.

The last ten minutes of Bruins-Sabres was some of the best hockey I've seen all year. End-to-end action, vicious hits, big saves.
Preds will break the streak today and go up 2-0!

I agree. There was a couple minute stretch in that last period of the game where I was holding my breath and I didn't care which team won.

Thre needs to be a team in Copps Coliseum. I know they would need to pay the Leafs and Sabres some $$$ for invading the market but still southern Ontario would pack them in.

It's been years since this sort of parity in the NHL. You would get the occasional number 1 seed get knocked off but nothing like I've seen this year. Jeaux you are right about Hamilton 13000 season tickets sold in 24 hours for the Phoenix/hamilton franchise they were planning on capping tickets at 16k with preference to those willing to commit to 5 year blocks...there is something wrong with an NHL that can't capitalize on this kind of parity. ESPN needs to be brought back ASAP and Bettman needs to be fired, the corruption and conflict of interest/ crooks that own franchises and incompetance from New York needs to stop...

Phoenix up 3-1 on Detroit. Doan out for the rest of the game. Jimmy Howard is getting worked.
Posted on 4/18/10 at 4:36 pm to UnluckyTiger
Imagine at the end of the Stanley cup finals last year if you said to anybody and I mean anybody Phoenix would be handling Detroit, they would have laughed at you....
Posted on 4/18/10 at 4:57 pm to LSUCanFAN
Phoenix made a serious statement today. All the pressure is on the Wings now.
Posted on 4/18/10 at 5:32 pm to dnwsr
True, but if anybody has the depth to make a comeback it's Detroit, question is do they want it?

I picked Detroit to make it to the finals so I don't think this series is anywhere close to being decided. It's just impressive to me that Phoenix was able to take it to them in Detroit like they did. Phoenix clearly wants it and they're playing like it. It'll be very interesting to see how Detroit responds in Game 4.
The Pens made a statement tonight as well. They dominated from start to finish and the playoff experience really paid off. Fleury isn't playing great, but he's playing well enough not to lose games and that's all they need as long as Crosby/Malkin/Stall keep dominating the middle.
The Flyers/Devils series looks like it could go on for a while. The odd dynamic between the Flyers/Devils/Pens this year definitely has me pulling for the Flyers to advance. All the pressure is on NJ in Game 4. They only managed 4 shots from the 3 period through overtime. Boucher isn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but if NJ can't get more pressure on net, it's not going to matter.
