Yep now they want to go independent so the next conference that expands won't have to invite a team with their Sunbelt stigma

The stuff that I'm reading on Ragin Pagin is pure comical...This is now LSU's fault, etc. It's really entertaining to see the meltdown over this.
Oh its golden. When I need a good laugh Ragin Pagin is the place to go. They blame LSU for everything!! It's comical. I can't believe people like this exist.

What does the Sun Belt openly acknowledge that small, regional school in Lafayette as again
ULL isn't small (enrollment of 18,000) and it's not regional (per the U.S. News definition).
I don't care about the name issue at all. But some of you have no idea you're talking about.

How many TDs has UL-L scored on LSU?

Here's - in a nutshell: - fans talk more about -'s name than they talk about - sports.

Are there any other examples of fans/students of a particular school wishing to call it's athletic teams something different than the actual university name?
The university is not University of Louisiana. Its the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is it not?

To be fair, a lot of schools do it. Texas does it (University of Texas at Austin), Cal does it (University of California-Berkley), Alabama (University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa).
However, all of those schools that do it are in fact the flagship schools of those systems. UL-L is not, nor will ever be, the flagship of the UL system.

Virginia Tech, Cal, Nevada come to mind.
MTSU fans prefer "University of Middle Tennessee", even though that's not their real name.

"I don't go by Jenny anymore. Call me Jenn."
When a chick is unhappy and insecure with with how little she's done with her life and how insignificant people must, therefore, perceive her to be, and when she hasn't the means to actually achieve something of any significance, she either thinks that a name change will get the ball rolling on this mission of achievement or, more likely, she thinks the name change will create an illusion of maturity, power, and significance that does not and will never exist.
- is Jenny.

UGA and Texas has crossed my mind on this.
So it's flagship status that sets the others apart?
Not many of my UL-L friends acknowledge or truly understand what flagship means.
As I stated in a previous post, I grew up in the Acadiana area and there has always been a lot of anti-LSU sentiment amongst the USL/UL-L faction.

Reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where George picks his own nickname..."T-Bone".
Of course he ultimately ends up being called "CoCo", which he hates.

Yep.
What enables UL-L to semi get away with it is that the UL system is set up to where there is no flagship university.
Which is why I will never understand UL-L's straight up hate for ULM when it was only because Northeast Louisiana agreed to adopt the "UL-city" moniker, that the legislature allowed Southwest Louisiana to become UL-Lafayette.

I say it again on here. The school should have embraced being call The University of Acadiana.
Instead, they want a name so that they can pretend to do something they do not do: represent the entire state. It is a marketing tool they want to grow but do not actually deserve. No one (not just LSU people but the rest of the state as well) wants them to be called or seen as the U of L.
UL-L is a good school with good support. It would be awesome if they were the U of Acadiana and would serve them well. Alas it won't happen.

Serious question, what other states have one flagship school? Arkansas?
Is it best to have one flagship school in the state, or competition?
Also, why aren't LaTech and ULM part of the University of Arkansas System?
I'll hang up and listen.

I'm not saying the UL system shouldn't have a flagship, but as it stands right now, they don't and, because it is such a shite show, probably never will.

Because they are not in Arkansas...?
Now back to my question, why does UL-L hate ULM so much when it was the Monroe campus that pretty much enabled USL to change its name to UL-L?

For me, it's just from an athletic rivalry standpoint. I don't care about the politics.

Is UL-L a land, space or sea grant research university? Or all 3?

I mean, I get that, but I've seen some just completely detest them beyond an athletic standpoint.
I don't know if you venture to Ragin Pagin or not, but if you do, can you explain to me why the posters there refer to to ULM as the "Hoax"?
Seems a tad disingenuous to me.
