A staggering stat I learned the other day is that the Cavs are 17.2 points better per 100 possessions when Lebron James is on the court. This is trouble for teams in the playoffs, as he can, and would play 40-44 minutes per game.

I mean, every possible stat you can come up with basically says LBJ is better than Kobe.
Kobe is definitely a better on the ball defender, but LeBron has become a really good defender the past 2 seasons.
Take into account ALL the ways LBJ is better on the offensive side of the ball, and there is no doubt in my mind that the torch has been passed.

Yeap
I wish I could find somewhere where that stat is available for all players. FIND it for me.

I also feel Hollinger was correct in saying we were comparing the wrong guy to MJ. LBJ is a forward and MJ was a guard but I think the comparison would have more validity than Kobe. Even though D-Whistle's 2006 Finals championship is completely illegitimate I think he may very well be a better player than Kobe. He's putting up better stats this year and did that year although his title was illegitimate. The 2 years in between he was plagued by injuries though, so perhaps Kobe is the better player on account of durability, but Wade has performed better when healthy.

yeah, i agree with that too. i really like hollinger, he seems to take a more intellectual approach to bball than the majority of sports writers. i'll try to find that point differential stat for you but i think that's going to be a hard one to track down

The team that finished #1 in his Power Rankings at end of year has went on to win the title the past 2 years. The Mavs had the best record in the NBA in '06-'07 but the Spurs point differntial is what allowed them to be ahead of Mavs in those rankings.
I like Hollinger for the most part but I think his approach gets too mathematical at times. Mathematics would be a pristine approach to basketball if humans were robots.
Warriors series was fluky bullshite though.

Off topic, but word on the street is that if you play the Celtics physical they wither like a little bitch, explaining their recent 2-6 stretch. Not surprising, teams usually adopt the trait of their leader and Kevin Garnett has a propensity for withering like a little bitch in critical situations.

All you really have to do is compare each player's first 5 years in the league. Lebron's first 5 years is light years better than what Kobe's was.
We can sit here all day and debate who the best player is, but let me remind you that we are having this conversation when Lebron is only 24, and he's better at 24 than kobe was. Actually, he was better than kobe at 18-23 also. Just look at their first few years. Kobe didn't even average 8 points a game his first year. He didn't average 20 points a game until his 4th. Lebron accomplished that in his 1st.
