I'm pretty sure you haven't watched hockey since 2011. Last year Ovechkin went on a tear and snatched the MVP and Rocket.
He has 61 goals in his last 81 games. He's on pace for 70 goals this year and is beating out his pace so far for his 65 goal campaign. He's winning the goal scoring race by 5. He's 3 away from tying last year's Rocket Richard winning season with 15 less games played.
He's the best goal-scorer of the modern era of hockey and you're going to say he's not a top 3 player in the league? Seriously, Crosby's dick can't possibly taste this good to you.

Ovechkin didn't "snatch" anything last year, the best player got hurt. Do you watch hockey? Ovechkin's "tear" is Crosby's normal. Hell Crosby almost won MVP and the Art Ross despite missing the last month of a shortened season he was so far ahead. Christs sake.

That's great, he's 11 points behind Crosby and will finish 20+ behind. That's the difference between a good player and a great one.

Because he's not? Just a fact. Crosby > Toews > Stamkos > Ovechkin. And really you could put Suter ahead of him at #5. In fact, a quick google, and you will see multiple lists that do not have Ovechkin as a Top 3 player (all have Crosby #1). Sorry to burst your bubble.

He's a great player that missed a quarter of the season. He didn't "almost" win the Hart. Ovechkin won it by winning the Rocket and regaining his swagger.

If you honestly think a 40/70/110 season is better than a 70/30/100 season than you don't know what great is. Assists do not equal goals. A 70 or above goal season has happened 14 times in the history of the NHL and hasn't happened since 1992-93.
In contrast, a 70 assist season has happened 130 times in the history of the NHL. You're 10 times more likely to find a 70 assist season than you are a 70 goal season.

Hilarious that you think any Capitals roster has ever equalled a Penguins roster. Crosby has two top 15 forwards in the league as teammates. plus Letang and Fleury. Capitals have never had close to that.
Please explain how that's Ovechkin's fault?
I hate hockey fans like you who pick the best teams, have "played the game" and then call everyone else idiots because they don't agree with you.
For the record I agree that Crosby is the best player in the league/world.

Don't play stupid, we all know getting an assist in hockey is much easier than getting a goal. You can pick up a point being the pass before the pass to the goal.

Meh, I think a lot of the fact that assists are part of scoring is that many goals are the result of deflections. It gives the shooter some props. Setting up a goal deserves some recognition too.

Kane has been awesome but lets not jump the gun and say he's better than Toews.
Scoring goals doesn't make a hockey player a great he's got to do the little shite. Like getting in front of the net and bang around and win faceoffs and there's only 1 player that has been better at winning faceoffs than Toews

The Golden Goal is really a testament to Iginla, the best power forward of his generation. Even more impressive is that Iginla started the tourney on the fourth line due to his age, and he proceeded to dominate everyone and by the Olympics end, was on the first line setting up the gold medal winner. Sure, Iggy has slipped (time is undefeated), but Iginla really does not get enough credit for having been the best player in hockey.
Best two-way player? Well, Henrik Sedin leads the lead in Corsi, and was #2 last year. But I think Toews, Bergeron, or Datsyuk is a good call. I will say Toews gets about 60% offensive zone starts, while Bergeron is closer to 40%... meaning Bergeron gets much tougher minutes, defensively speaking.
I do think it's kind of cute Pens fans try and denigrate Ovie by bringing up defense, as if Crosby is some defensive stud. Neither is a muck in the corners kind of guy, or a real active backchecker. And i think the two best teams when it comes to two-way play are the Kings and Hawks, so you have to give credit to Toews and Kopitar. They set the tone for those teams.
