Boom. NBC is a joke. Even the events they stream are of such poor quality they aren't even worth watching. Try finding the puck on any of the streamed hockey broadcasts.
I'm PRAYING they don't get the contract for 2014.

If the reason you are not showing events live online is that you say no one is interested in watching them that way, why are you bothering to police the Web? Prove that no one cares about live events online.

Here's the dumbest part of this decision:
NBC owns the NHL broadcast rights. So, they are refusing to promote their own product while also alienating the viewership they do have. I will not watch an NHL game on NBC unless it is the Stanley Cup. I will watch via Center Ice.
And, while I understand they have to appeal to women in their Olympic coverage, do they really think everyone is going to turn the set off if they put perhaps the best hockey game of the year on, pre-empting one measely night of coverage? Men put up with figure skating, women can put up with hockey for one friggin night.

Well, not a good result for the US this afternoon. Finland beat Belarus (the probable 3rd place team in their group) 5-1, which mean the US is 2 behind in goal differential among the likely 2nd-place teams (Only one 2nd-place team gets a bye to the quarterfinals).
I wouldn't assume that Sweden is going to beat Finland. I like Finland to win that bracket. Sweden was less than impressive against the Germans. A bye obviously helps, but it's not a necessity. Belarus, Norway, Latvia, and Germany shouldn't pose much of a threat (I'll be surprised if those aren't the bottom 4) in the next round. And as long as the U.S. beats Norway, they'll be in line to face one of those teams if they don't pull out the shocker on Sunday.

After watching Sweden against Germany, I agree that the Finns should be favored in that group. I do think the bye is critical, though. As physical as these games have been, even against the bottom-feeders, you don't want to have to play an extra game. I predict the four teams with byes win all four quarterfinals (and are the three medalists)

5 min overtime then shootout? 5 min overtimes till someone scores?
20 min overtime periods of sudden death (this is my guess)?
