Over the Line
Ever play over the line as a kid? Go on the grass, choose teams & set out a couple cones to show where the base hit line is?
OMBAC ( Old Mission Beach Athletic Club ) is hosting their 72nd annual tournament starting this coming weekend. It's played on Mission Beach on Fiesta Island in San Diego over the next 2 weekends. Usually there are approx 1200 teams between the mens and womens divisions. Men play defense without a glove, women are allowed to use one.
It's basicall a huge party with only 3 rules. the 3 B's. No bottles, no bowsers, no babies. You submit a name, and all day long they call out who's playing, who's up next on which court. Half the fun is coming up with the name, and pretty much anything goes except profanity. Over the years the've only dis allowed 2 names. First one was concerning a massacre at McDonalds in 1984. The second was anything about John Wayne, who is a hero to the group. Once a name concerning the Duke was submitted, and they announced that they would only sa it 1 time, and after that they were called team # 445. The name.... John Wayne couldn't stomach cancer.
Below is a layout of the court, and the bracket board showing all the names.

Smokey's fragile, man. He's a pacifist.

Played in quite a few tournaments down in San Felipe, Mexico during the early 80's. Huge party basically. First year we went we were a week late. The locals called us the "stupid gringos". 25 cent fish tacos though
