Students are done for semester the college stadiums are too big without students I think the corners will be definitely well attended after that maybe not but the on-campus home games are not gonna be as great as people once thought because of the time of the year without students

Freezing cold, students are on spring break, Happy Valley is in the middle of nowhere, it's the first round of four, people have Christmas travel plans and the closest city is Pittsbugh, which isn't really a destination city...

It makes perfect sense.

Penn state has millions of fans and you are telling me 90k can't turn out for a playoff game? Lmao

LSU could be playing in Nebraska on Christmas eve and 70k+ would still show up. This is a home game!

That’s really weak for an “up north” fan base that touts being able to handle the cold better than SEC schools lol
eh, unlike tOSU, the Penn State campus happens to be situated in the middle of fricking nowhere, PA. the vast majority of their fan/alumni base are in Pitt, Philly, and DMV all of which are ~3.5 - 4 hours drive each way.

and considering the students are gone and Christmas is only few days away, I can’t blame anyone for not exactly being super pumped about attending this weekend

How’s their attendance during the season?

Half the round 1 and 2 playoff games look like your average Week 2 regular season game lineup.

105,000+ for the so so games, 111,000 for big games. Keep in mind, The nearest real airport is 90 miles away, and the nearest major airport is 2.5 hours away.

Over 60% of the fans drive over 2 hours to attend games.

There will be 90K+. The “playoff” took 10,000 seats from the student section and offered them to general public. The student section was reduced from 25k to 15k for this game. This is what drove the prices down and dumped a lot of supply into the market.

Plus, it’s graduation weekend, no hotels available. Available rooms are going for $1600 plus. Since the majority of fans are driving 3 plus hours to attend, travel plans are made months in advance for home games.

I’m coming from northern Delaware, 3 hours away with no traffic. For a noon game, this is my usual plan:

1. Leave house at 0430
2. Arrive at State College at 0930 ( last 10 miles to town is a two lane road if you’re coming from Philly or the DMV) Traffic usually backs up for several miles on game day
3. Attend game
4. Tailgate for a couple of hours after game, with the weather tomorrow, that would be a no. Plan is to watch the 1600 games at a bar in town.
5. Leave town around 1900
6. Get home at midnight

60% of the fans are doing the same thing for every home game.

I had season tix from 1997-2008, home PSU weekends are a grind.

Daughters is at Navy, have season tickets there. With most of their games at 1530, it’s nice to leave at 1100, arrive at the stadium at 1230, tailgate before the game, tailgate after, leave at 2000, home by 2130.

So a playoff game should be no problem

So the announced attendance here ended up being 106,000 which looked about accurate, the atmosphere was great the entire game, and a family of four got to go to a playoff game for about $250 including parking and food/drink. Seems like a positive overall outcome.
