I am so glad ND didn't get in. The built in rule for ND next season is BS.

The MOU (which was agreed to by all conference commissioners) means nothing. The committee will just move ND down to #13 if they otherwise would have had ND at #11 or #12.

Also, its origination was in case the CFP went to a guaranteed number of bids per conference. It happens that it’ll still be in place, but it was designed in case the B1G got 4 guaranteed no matter what, the SEC got 4 no matter what, etc.

two due to poor committee decisions
Meh. I don't have a ton of sympathy for ND, and I'm someone who thinks ND had a far greater chance of winning the playoff than OU or Alabama. The dropping of ND at the 11th hour was completely moronic, but that was due to their even more stupid decision to have ND that high (and above Miami for a ton of it) so early in the season.

This isn't a power ranking playoff, and your ability to win as judged by theoretical spreads is irrelevant. ND was ranked 1 spot below OU and 1 spot above Alabama in the BCS rankings. It's not like the committee ignored every other ranking set and threw threw completely unworthy teams into the playoff. I guess the solution would seem to be not having a season that results in you grouped in with these teams you think are so awful and undeserving.

Fair, and this was also part of the problem that’s been lost a bit. If Miami was always ahead, the issue would’ve never arisen. And while I think Bama correctly dropped behind ND after OU, the optics ended up being even worse for moving them back ahead after struggling against Auburn. I don’t think keeping ND always behind Bama would’ve been the right call… but it would’ve looked way better than flip-flopping them for no apparent reason.

It’s hard to know what exactly it is. The criteria, technically, is “best”. What does that mean? It’s not strictly quality of wins/losses / most deserving. In 2023, Bama went over FSU because the committee deemed them “better” even though FSU had the better/more deserving resume. Further, I think Miami’s run and the SEC’s CFP/bowl struggles also show that maybe Bama’s SOR / SOS / “most deserving” advantage over ND wasn’t as large as everyone thought pre-playoff.

Fair enough.
