I think he has more than made up for it at the plate (and the bank).
He's faded fast this year, and wasn't great last year, but there were multiple years where he was better than what we paid him. I have absolutely no regrets with signing JD Drew. I couldn't care less that he understands baseball is a numbers game, and doesn't break his bat if he hits a flyball in a crucial situation.

Even as a Red Sox fan, I don't think they will get to 100 wins.
Unless they pick up someone before the non-waiver trading deadline, their bench could easily be the least impressive (offensively) of any team that ever won 100 games. Drew and/or Lowrie will be back off the D/L at some point, but right now -
The current Red Sox bench:
Jason Varitek (.236)
Darnell McDonald (.160)
Yamaico Navarro (.167)
That's the entire bench going into tonight's game !

I actually saw Bucky at an event honoring Demie Mainieri last November and got a picture with him. I told him I just had to send it to my cousins in New England who can't refer to him without using his middle name - (F*@k!n)

Darnell McDonald will probably be dropped down for Kalish or Nava come the post season (or a trade for a good right handed OF), Varitek will catch Beckett, and Navarro isn't that bad.

I'm going to be in Manchester in September and we've got tickets to the Toronto game on the 13th? The seats are in Grandstand 19. Ever sat there?
Those seats aren't great IIRC. Theres a decent chance you'll have an obstructed view. Last year I ended up with some free seats there and I sold them for 40 each and bought some loge box seats for 100 each... ended up being a really good buy.

That's what the middle of the Mariners lineup looks like you spoiled bastard.

19 HR, 66 RBI per season and a .264 AVG for $14 million annually. Drew is a stiff!

Olivo, Smoak and Carp (last night's middle of the order) beg to differ ...

I'm reading on ESPN Kuroda is considering the red sox...surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to make another move like this, would they? You can say what you want about JD, but I'd be more concerned about pissing away money on Matsuzaka and, potentially, Kuroda.

You managed to quote two of the most overrated stats in baseball in one comment. Congrats.

I didn't "quote" anything.....but feel free to supply two relevant "stats" that justify paying this bum $14 million a year. He has made $94 million in his career and made ONE All Star team.

He had a .900 OPS twice and ~.800 OPS twice while providing fantastic defense during his stay for the Red Sox. JD Drew's game has never been about averages, its on base percentage and slugging. 5 and 4.1 WAR, what a bum

His OPS, Slugging, and OBP is higher than Ichiro's over his career
Yes he has faded fast at the end of his career, but jeez.

he's also won a ring, which I would consider more valuable than 10 all star appearances. and the one all star game he did make, he was MVP. But i guess haters are gonna hate.

Can a Red Sox fan answer the question. TIA.

You know someone had to say this, but Cody Ross is more valuable than Ryne Sandberg then.
Drew was not a bust as most like to think. However, I would not say that he exceeded the expectations of his contract by any means.

not saying he's more valuable than anyone else...I'm saying in my mind, and most likely in his, he would rather have that world series ring than 10 all star appearances. (sorry for the confusion)
and in fairness to sandberg, he played for the cubs. They couldn't win a world series by default if the rest of the teams in MLB folded.

Ok, I agree with that. Your previous post seemed a little confusing for someone who usually I agree with baseball-wise.

Maybe it's the abundance of Bravetards here but I really don't see how people here keep selling the Phillies short. They're clearly the best team in baseball even with an inept offense. If the bats continue to come around and Howard can get hot, they will waltz to a World Series. And that's not me being a homer, anything short of a WS victory is a huge disappointment with this pitching staff.
