And the hits just keep on coming.

That 14M is going to look nice next offseason.

I get the sense that you are probably putting a bit too much stock into spring training.

I'm not very optimistic about this season though. I think we will end up with ~85 wins and barely miss the playoffs again. It probably won't get better until we get new ownership that is willing to at least bump the payroll up to ~105 million. Chipper coming off the books this offseason will help, but we are going to have to pay McCann a shite ton after what Molina got. Fredi being fired at the end of this season (I hope) will help too. Provided we don't make another terrible hire.

I didn't think it was possible I could despise him even more.

I was wrong.

I was fairly pessimistic before ST.

It hasn't really changed my impressions of the team, except increase my worry about Pastornicky.

We'll definitely be competitive, but I think more like 3rd/4th.

Chipper should retire now so he can keep his .304 career batting avg. He's been my favorite player since he came into the league and I'd hate to see him retire under the .300 mark.

He would have to hit like .230 or below this year to even approach .300

I know it would have to be some crazy low # but he's 0-8 so far in spring training. I'd rather him retire than have to struggle thru another year.

Do you mean injury wise?

He was 2nd best offensive player on the team last year.

Injury wise and production wise. I know he hit .270 something but 2nd half of season really wasn't very Chipperesque. He started off strong before the mid season surgery and never was same after wards and so far he's still struggling.. I know its spring training but it's not looking good so far with production and injury!

No offense or anything, but you are talking out of your arse

In the 2nd half last year, Chipper hit .303 with an OPS of .895.

Him and Uggla were the only hitters who produced in the 2nd half of the season.

We needed to go out and get a decent FA bat and we didn't. That is my major worry. That and the nursing home caliber range of our projected starting infield. I guess they are just banking on a full season with Bourn and Heyward hopefully getting back on track being > a FA acquisition. I just get the feeling that we won't be any better than we were last year.

Yeah Uggla was about as good as it gets for him in the 2nd half last year.

hit .296 with a .948 OPS

Had a HR in 8.1% of his AB's, while his career avg is 5.4%. I just hope he can even it out and be consistent in both halves of the year this year.

Well, it's an even numbered year, so Uggla should be good to go given his past history.
