Yet Nicklaus competed against 16 other golfers during his career that won multiple majors while Woods has competed against 6 other golfers with multiple majors.
Where are you getting this number for Tiger?
Mickelson
Singh
Els
Harrington
McIlroy
Goosen
Cabrera
Payne Stewart
Lee Janzen
John Daly
I could even throw in Faldo, Norman, and Zoeller who were still competing in the late 90s. The quality of major winners obviously isn't what Jack faced, but all of these guys won multiple majors nonetheless.
Also, the argument that the top competition isn't as good today as it was in Nicklaus' day isn't fair to Tiger. You can't just say everyone else wasn't very good because Tiger was beating them all the time. And Nicklaus himself has said that the fields today are much stronger than what he faced.

I simply looked at the years they won their majors. It was a quick lookup so errors were probably made. This is also true for Nicklaus as I didn't count Hogan as someone on the list even though they certainly competed against each other. There are others I ommited for him as well.

I don't like Tiger, but I'm of the thought that in his prime he was the best that ever played.
Overall career I still think Nicklaus is #1, but Tiger has a long time left to catch him.
