I think they need to look at the whole idea of "control" and why it's weighted so heavily in judging fights.

I completely agree

That’s why so many people had an issue with Henry beat DJ

He took him down and just laid there

Jones walking him down is nothing if he isn’t out pointing him.

Your whole argument for why jones should win is:

1. He got a take down in the 3rd
2. He pressured him

Those are basically the last tie breakers of the scoring system. The damage was done by Reyes

I didn't see the first two rounds of the fight so I don't have an honest assessment of how to score it. Not surprised that Reyes didn't get the decision based on the last three rounds.

Important that these are total strikes, which means they count every time jones push kicks a knee.

Now, it’s Stephen A’s time to shine.

Stephen A, being Stephen A, probably will come after Joe a little bit. I know that SAS really doesn't know jack about MMA. But Rogan sold Jones' performance as something that it wasn't. I don't see how Reyes didn't win rounds 1-3 easily.

Can’t wait for them to deny Reyes a rematch.

No Stephen A Smith anywhere to be found on the ESPN broadcast this time. Rogan just flying solo on sportscenter.

Amazing it took the suits at ESPN two months to figure out that the biggest podcast host in the world doesn't need a set up man or a token loud mouth to be good in a post fight interview.

Jones did just as much damage that round
And he control the ring
And he took him down

So he won the fricking round

I'd imagine Corey Anderson will get the next title shot, assuming he wins next weekend.

That's if Jon stays at LHW

I had round 2 going to Jones. Reyes came out swinging but after the first minute or so Jones controlled that round and did some damage. It was a good bounce-back round for Jones after a tough 1st and I was hoping he would continue that momentum into the 3rd but Reyes had more consistent output in the 3rd and won it, IMO.

I had rounds 2, 4, and 5 going to Jones. It was one of the better Jones fights in the last few years. The Santos fight was hard to watch because I couldn't stop thinking about his poor knees.

Agreed. "controlling the ring" is part of boxing's scoring system. If you are in the center of the ring, you are scoring points. If you're backing the other guy into corners, even if you're not landing anything, you're scoring points.

Maybe that matters in boxing where the whole sport is footwork and throwing hands. You're judging the fighters based on the different skills in boxing. The footwork and controlling the ring is one of those skills.

But I don't see why it matters in MMA so much.

How did Reyes win round three

He came out swing for the first min, got gassed

Let Jon walk him down
Let Jon control the ring and land shots
And then get taken down

I see that total strikes graphic and again think, a nothing takedown can win Jones the second, but Reyes legit hurting Jones can’t win Reyes the fourth?
